| Padres drop two to minors |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (3/17/13) The San Diego Padres further trimmed their roster Sunday, reassigning pitchers Brandon Kloess and Donn Roach to their minor-league camp. Neither player was expected to crack the opening day roster.

| Roach hits inning limit |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (7/19/12) Padres pitching prospect Donn Roach has made his last start of the season, as the organization announced Thursday that he has reached his inning limit for the season. Roach, who was acquired in a trade in May from Los Angeles, has toss 105 1/3 innings, a 50 percent increase over his total from the previous season.
|
| Donn Roach was the lesser known of the players acquired from the Angels in the Ernesto Frieri deal last May (because, you know, Alexi Amarista is a regular household name), but he may be the one the Padres are most excited about right now. Having moved back to the starting rotation after spending all of 2011 in relief, he went 11-2 with an 1.88 ERA between Class A and Double-A last year. The Padres limited him to only 105 1/3 innings, so he's a bit behind pace for an up-and-coming 23-year-old. Still, if the big-league rotation suffers a rash of injuries, Roach could be a candidate for a midseason call-up, making him a name to keep in mind in NL-only leagues. He doesn't profile as an ace or anything, but he's a notable enough prospect for deeper dynasty leagues. (Updated 1/2/13) |
