Mets' Juan Lagares, Lucas Duda return to lineup Monday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/25/15) Mets center fielder Juan Lagares and first baseman Lucas Duda are back in the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.

Lagares, who is batting second, was scratched from Sunday's lineup with soreness in his armpit and elbow. Duda, who is batting third, was held out Sunday due to hamstring tightness.

The Mets are heavy favorites (-165) at home on Monday, per VegasInsider.com.

Juan Lagares scratched from Mets' lineup with injury

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(5/24/15) Mets center fielder Juan Lagares was a late scratch from Sunday's lineup.

Lagares has nagging soreness in his armpit and elbow, per ESPN.

Darrell Ceciliani replaces Lagares in center, his first start of the year at that position. He'll bat seventh.

Mets alter lineup with Curtis Granderson getting day off

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/21/15) Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson was held out of the starting lineup Thursday against the Cardinals for the first time in 10 games. With Granderson out of the starting lineup, center fielder Juan Lagares moved into the leadoff spot for the third time this season.

That wasn't the only change to the lineup manager Terry Collins made. He moved shortstop Wilmer Flores into the second spot in the batting order. Flores has started to improve offensively, batting .262 with a .524 slugging percentage, two doubles, three home runs and seven RBI in his last 11 games.

Third baseman Eric Campbell, who hit second the last four games, was moved to seventh in the lineup.

Mets OF Juan Lagares trying to emerge from hitting slump

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/20/15) Mets outfielder Juan Lagares hit safely for a fourth straight game Tuesday against the Cardinals, but it still hasn't been enough to break him out of a hitting slump that has lasted for a couple of weeks. Lagares is batting just .152 (7 for 46) in his last 11 games, which has dropped his average from .324 to .270.

While Lagares was hitting for a high average as of early May, there still hasn't been a lot of progress in his offensive game. He has just five extra-base hits, 13 RBI and a .617 OPS in 37 games. He also has 33 strikeouts.

“Maybe he’s trying too hard to command [the strike zone],” Mets hitting coach Kevin Long said, per the New York Post. “At this point, he’s [gone] a little bit backwards, but he’ll keep working at it. He’ll get it right.”

Mets manager Terry Collins feels Lagares' recent struggles might be related to a game-winning home run he hit May 9 against the Phillies.

“He’s got to work extra hard at using the whole field to hit, not worry about driving any baseballs,” Collins said.

Lagares missed a few games last week due to a torso injury. Lagares said the injury isn't a factor and he remains a confident hitter despite his offensive slump.

“I try to come back to the approach I was [using] before,” Lagares said. “The only thing you can control is keep working hard and try to do the best you can out there.”

Mets' Eric Campbell batting second, Juan Lagares ninth Sunday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/17/15) Mets third baseman Eric Campbell is batting second in Sunday's matchup with the Brewers, with center fielder Juan Lagares slotted ninth behind the pitcher.

Campbell, who has hit just .218/.328/.345 in 55 at-bats with the Mets, is making his second straight start after joining the team in the wake of the injury to second baseman Dilson Herrera, which has shifted Daniel Murphy back to second base. Lagares has hit second on most days since the injuries to David Wright and Travis d'Arnaud, but he'll be making his first start lower than second since April 25.

The Mets are favorites (-130) at home Sunday, per VegasInsider.com.
