Mets' Collins on Lagares moving to No. 2 hole: Our options were limited

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/21/15) Mets outfielder Juan Lagares moved to the No. 2 spot in the order Tuesday night against the Braves. The move was made after third baseman and everyday No. 2 hitter David Wright was placed on the disabled list on Wednesday with a hamstring issue, and his replacement Travis d'Arnaud suffered a fractured hand on Sunday.

Lagares is hitting .275/.302/.294 with five RBI through his first 53 plate appearances.

"Well, I think our options were a little limited," manager Terry Collins. "And here's a guy that we think is starting to swing the bat much better. We almost started the season with him leading off. So I just thought I'll put him in the two-hole. ... He uses the whole field to hit. If Grandy [Curtis Granderson] gets on, he's got a hole between first and second, which he's very accustomed to hitting something in that hole. And his foot speed helps. If he gets on, he can get himself in scoring position."

Mets OF Juan Lagares pushes hitting streak to seven games

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/20/15) Mets outfielder Juan Lagares carries a seven-game hitting streak into Tuesday's game against the Braves. He is batting .385 (10 for 26) with one double, four RBI, five runs, two walks, three strikeouts and one stolen base in that span.

Lagares is batting .293 (12 for 41) with five RBI against right-handers in 2015. He is batting .200 (2 for 10) with no RBI against lefties.

With d'Arnaud off, Mets move Lagares to No. 2 hole

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/17/15) With catcher Travis d'Arnaud receiving the night off, the Mets moved center fielder Juan Lagares into the No. 2 hole in New York's lineup against the Marlins on Friday, per ESPN. Lagares is hitting .231/.268/.231 with three RBI in 10 games.

D'Arnaud has assumed the No. 2 hole after the Mets placed David Wright on the disabled list. Anthony Recker will take his spot behind the plate for the night and will bat eighth. D'Arnaud is hitting .294 (10 for 34) with a double, a triple, a home run and eight RBI in nine games.

Mets drop Juan Lagares in batting order

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(4/13/15) Mets manager Terry Collins is dropping center fielder Juan Lagares one spot in the batting order.

Lagares was a candidate for the leadoff spot in spring training, but he opened the season in the six hole in the order. After opening the season with a .160 average and six strikeouts in 25 at bats, Lagares will bat seventh on Monday.

"If he continues to swing the bat like he can, he'll be in the leadoff spot," Collins said, per ESPN. "Right now, he's struggling a little bit. So we kind of like where he's at. We've got all the confidence in the world. When that confidence fades, we'll find somebody else. But, right now, this guy is one of the real, real good players and an up-and-coming star in this game."

Catcher Travis d'Arnaud, who is hitting .333 with five RBI, moves up from the seventh spot.

Mets' Juan Lagares leading off Sunday vs. Braves

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/12/15) Mets center fielder Juan Lagares has been moved to the leadoff spot for Sunday's game against the Braves.

Lagares will get the leadoff role with Curtis Granderson being replaced by John Mayberry in Sunday's lineup. The Mets are also giving second baseman Daniel Murphy and catcher Travis d'Arnaud a break from starting Sunday, with Ruben Tejada and Anthony Recker set to start against the Braves.

Manager Terry Collins indicated that while Murphy is fatigued, "his legs are fine," ESPNNewYork.com reports. Tejada was initially set to start ahead of Wilmer Flores Sunday but instead will spell Murphy at second base.

The Mets are underdogs (+104) against the Braves Sunday, per VegasInsider.com.
