|Yankees drop two to Triple-A |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(3/28/14) One sensational spring training player and one terrible one in 2014 have been demoted to Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes-Barre by the Yankees.
The former is outfielder Zoilo Almonte, who batted .410 with a .615 slugging percentage in exhibition play. The team simply doesn't have the regular season at-bats for the 24 year old.
The latter is right-hander Preston Claiborne, whose 12.49 ERA in Grapefruit League play doomed him for a trip to the minors.

|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
(8/29/13) Yankees outfielder Zoilo Almonte is hoping to take batting practice soon, according to the New York Post.
Almonte has been dealing with an ankle injury since July 19. He also had his wisdom teeth removed recently. Almonte is hitting .261/.305/.341 in 88 at-bats.
|Zoilo Almonte was briefly playing the role of Yankees Surprise -- in the vein of Shane Spencer and Kevin Maas -- hitting .314 with four doubles and three steals over his first 15 games following a June call-up. But a mid-July ankle injury shelved Almonte until the end of September, cutting short a promising debut. Almonte, an eight-year veteran of the minors, was showing promise on the far, increasing his home run totals and batting average in each of the past four seasons. His problem is the situation -- the Yankees are loaded at outfield with four veterans who will rotate into the DH spot. Almonte will need at least one injury to have any impact. He can be left undrafted in most formats.
