(5/11/13) Padres reliever Brad Boxberger was optioned to Triple-A Tucson Saturday, making room on the active roster for starter Burch Smith.
Boxberger made two scoreless appearances for the Padres, tossing 3 2/3 innings with five strikeouts.

(5/2/13) The Padres have recalled Brad Boxberger from Triple-A Tuscon.
Boxberger tossed 27 2/3 solid innings with the club last season. He had a 2.60 ERA and averaged over a strikeout per inning in the majors in 2012. Robbie Erlin was sent to Tuscon to make room for the right-handed Boxberger.

(3/23/13) The Padres have optioned pitcher Brad Boxberger to Triple-A Tucson, according to MLB.com. Boxberger allowed four runs in eight innings this spring.

(9/4/12) The Padres activated pitcher Anthony Bass (shoulder) off the disabled list on Tuesday before a game in Los Angeles. The Padres made a series of moves Tuesday including adding catcher Ali Solis, infielder Andy Parrino and reliever Brad Boxberger to the active roster from the minors. San Diego also designated pitcher Ross Ohlendorf for assignment along with catcher Eddy Rodriguez.

| Brad Boxberger, the forgotten player in the deal that sent Mat Latos to the Reds for Yonder Alonso, Yasmani Grandal and Edinson Volquez last offseason, has to be a favorite to win a bullpen job this spring after posting a 1.46 ERA and 0.89 WHIP in 11 appearances last September. Averaging 12.1 strikeouts per nine innings in three minor-league seasons, the 24-year-old has the kind of stuff that might make him an option or the ninth inning someday, though he's a good way down the pecking order right now. As a middle reliever, his Fantasy value is limited, but his upside makes him a player to monitor in NL-only Rotisserie leagues in case you need ERA and WHIP help later in the season.
