Chavez rehabbing in Florida: Orioles injured outfielder Endy Chavez (oblique) continues to rehab his injury down in Sarasota, Fla., at the Orioles' spring training complex, reports MLB.com on Tuesday. Chavez has been limited to hitting soft toss and off a tee. He will likely need a rehab assignment before coming off the DL. (Updated 05/22/2012)
Injury Report
Oblique - 15-day DL. Out until at least early June (Updated - 5/22/12)
Fantasy Analysis
Chavez is still a little ways from returning as oblique injuries tend to linger. Chavez is dealing with the same injury that Mark Reynolds is currently, though Reynolds is a little ahead of Chavez's timetable. When healthy, Chavez is expected to go back to being the Orioles' fourth outfielder. He has low-end AL-only Fantasy appeal in that role. (Updated 05/22/2012).
05/05/2012 16:22 Orioles use long ball to top Boston
Mark Reynolds hit a three-run homer, Jason Hammel continued his strong start this season and the Baltimore Orioles extended Boston's recent home struggles with an 8-2 win over the Red Sox on Saturday.
04/22/2012 19:05 Markakis drives in 3 as O's edge Halos
Nick Markakis hit a two-run single in the eighth inning and a run-scoring single in the 10th, leading the Baltimore Orioles to a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.
Endy Chavez had a bounce-back campaign for the Rangers last season and could end up seeing some decent playing time in 2012. After batting .301 with five homers, 27 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 83 games, he signed with the Orioles in the offseason and is expected to compete with Nolan Reimold in left field during the spring. The 34-year-old has shown in the past that he can be productive when given regular playing time but his days of stealing 30-plus bases are likely gone. Still, if he can put up numbers close to his 2011 campaign, Chavez will have some value in Fantasy. Plan on targeting Chavez in deeper AL-only formats on Draft Day. (Updated 3/5/12)
