05/14/2012 20:47 A.J. Ellis is getting a lot of attention
Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis is one of the most viewed players on CBSSports.com. The Fantasy Baseball crew has all the analysis.
Mark Ellis' midseason move to Colorado was very telling in terms of his future Fantasy value. Ellis started off poorly in 2011, hitting .217 with just one home run before the A's traded him to the Rockies in late June. Though his production did improve, Ellis' power numbers were still modest, as he clubbed only six home runs and 13 doubles with Coors Field as his home park for half of a season. Ellis has never been a reliable hitter for average, but he was once a decent source of power. The lesson for Fantasy owners is that those days are over, as Ellis has become much more of a ground ball hitter over the last three seasons. He is also still injury prone, so even though Ellis is penciled in as the Dodgers' starting second baseman for next season, he cannot be counted on as anything more than an NL-only option.
