| Robbie Erlin set for spot start Saturday |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (6/1/13) With Saturday's scheduled starter Clayton Richard pressed into duty Friday for a 17-inning marathon against the Blue Jays, the Padres called up Robbie Erlin from Triple-A Tacoma for a spot start.
Erlin has a 3.79 ERA in eight starts at Triple-A this season. He appeared in two games for the Padres, allowing two runs on three hits in two innings.
The team has yet to announce a corresponding roster move to make room for Erlin on the active roster.

| Robbie Erlin optioned to Triple-A Tuscon |
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (5/2/13) The Padres have optioned reliever Robbie Erlin to Triple-A Tuscon.
Erlin only tossed two innings with the club this season. He gave up two runs in his first appearance, but pitched a scoreless inning Wednesday. Erlin will be replaced by reliever Brad Boxberger.

| Robbie Erlin 'a little amped' during ML debut |
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (5/1/13) Padres pitcher Robbie Erlin made his major-league debut on Tuesday night against the Cubs. He entered in the ninth inning with an eight-run lead and allowed two runs on three hits, including a solo homer by Cody Ransom.
"It felt good," Erlin told MLB.com on Wednesday. "It was good to get the first one out of the way. I was a little amped up, but I felt fine. I felt like I had a pretty good feel for my pitches. Maybe the offspeed release points might have been a little off, but that's all right."
|
| Kind of like Joe Wieland, who the Padres also acquired in the deal that sent Mike Adams to the Rangers in 2011, Robbie Erlin's less-than-knockout stuff is overshadowed by his stellar minor-league numbers. He has averaged 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings over four minor-league seasons, and that rate only seems to be rising as he ascends the minor-league latter. Whether or not it'll translate to the major-league level remains to be seen, but his impeccable control should make him a success one way or another. Because his lack of stuff presumably limits his ceiling to that of a middle-of-the-rotation starter, Erlin will go unowned in some long-term keeper league, but if his numbers ultimately translate to the big leagues, he'll be a long-term steal for the owner who was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
