Astros' Jose Altuve: It seems like we're ready to go to the playoffs

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1/23/15) The Astros have been active this offseason trying to reshape the roster for the 2015 campaign. Some of the roster moves made have included the acquistions of Evan Gattis, Luis Valbuena and Dan Straily, as well as the signings of Jed Lowrie, Pat Neshek and Colby Rasmus.

Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is pumped up about the roster additions and indicated Friday he feels the Astros have a chance to compete for a playoff spot in 2015, per The Houston Chronicle.

“I think the front office, they know what they’re doing,” Altuve said. “I always expect a winning season. No matter what team we have, I always want to win.

“Obviously, there’s a lot of movement lately on the team. It seems like the thing is we’re ready to go to the playoffs, so we’re going to work hard for that.”

The Astros finished fourth in the AL West in 2014 (70-92). Altuve made his second All-Star team in 2014, while leading the majors in hits (225) and batting average (.341).

Update: Jose Altuve insterted into final starting lineup

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9/28/14) Astros second baseman Jose Altuve has been inserted into the team's starting lineup for Sunday's season finale after initially finding himself on the bench.

Altuve has a .340 batting average that is three points ahead of Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez's .337 mark, and the team initially left Altuve out of the lineup to presumably protect his lead, though a big day by Martinez could have pushed his mark ahead of that of Altuve. However, the second baseman was passionate about playing in the season finale, and the team ultimately decided to acquiese to his wishes.

Jose Altuve out of lineup Sunday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9/28/14) Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's season finale against the Mets.

If he doesn't see action later in the game, Altuve will finish the season with a .340/.376/.451 line along with seven home runs, 58 RBI, 56 stolen bases and a league-leading 223 hits in 656 at-bats.

Jose Altuve the only bright spot for Houston

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9/18/14) Astros infielder Jose Altuve was the lone bright spot for the club Wednesday.

Altuve accounted for the team's only two hits of the night. He went 2 for 4, with two singles. The Astros were shut out, so Altuve did not register any runs or RBIs.

Jose Altuve becomes new franchise single-season hit king

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9/16/14) Astros second baseman Jose Altuve went 2 for 5 Tuesday to become the franchise's new single-season hit king in his team's 4-2 loss to the Indians.

Altuve tied Craig Biggio's franchise record of 210 hits with a double in the fifth inning Tuesday, and No. 211 came on a seventh-inning single. The major-league leader in batting average, Altuve has hit .343/.379/.456 with seven home runs, 54 RBI and 52 stolen bases in 616 at-bats. He has 11 more games to add to his new record.
