Altuve showing discipline at plate : After drawing just five walks last season, manager Brad Mills wanted second basemen Jose Altuve to work on his plate discipline during the offseason. Altuve did just that over the summer, which has paid dividends at the plate. He entered Saturday's contest with 12 walks in 161 plate appearances, which translates into a 7.5 of his plate appearances. That is way up from the 2.1 percent he walked last year. "That's the type of hitter he is," Mills told MLB.com. "He's good that way. He makes good consistent contact. We just want to make sure that he's being able to go deeper into counts as well." Fantasy Analysis
Altuve has been one of the more pleasant surprises in Fantasy this season and most feel his new approach at the plate deserves most of the credit for his success. He is taking an average of 3.56 pitches per at bat in 2012 compared to 3.08 pitches per at-bat last season, which has helped him be more selective at the plate. He entered Saturday's contest hitting .316 on the year and his 46 hits leads the Astros and ranks 13th in the National League. While the 25-year-old doesn't have much power, Altuve's ability to get on base, and hit for average continue to give him value in most mixed formats. Leave him active in the majority of formats moving forward. (Updated 05/19/2012).

05/16/2012 20:13 Jose Altuve is on the who's not list
Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is on the who's not list. The Fantasy Baseball 360 crew has the details.
Jose Altuve made his major-league debut last season and showed that he can hold his own with the bat. After hitting .389 with a .591 slugging percentage in two stops in the minors, he received the call in late July and immediately saw playing time at second base. He batted .346 over his first 21 games before slumping a bit and ended the year with a .276 average. He also hit two home runs, stole seven bases and posted a .357 slugging percentage in 221 at-bats. While his power did not translate to the majors, the 21-year-old lines up as a starter for 2012 and should continue to improve. Target Altuve in NL-only formats on Draft Day, as he is likely a year or two away from becoming a viable option in larger Fantasy leagues. (Updated 1/9/12)
