| After a stellar performance at low Class A Fort Wayne in which he averaged 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings in 2011, Keyvius Sampson jumped all the way to Double-A San Antonio last year. It was a bit of a reality check for the 22-year-old. He posted a 5.00 ERA in 26 appearances (including 25 starts), though as you might expect for a player skipping a level, he got off to a rocky start. His 3.73 ERA in 11 appearances (including 10 starts) after the All-Star break gives a better indication of his abilities. He significantly improved his walk rate during that stretch, which is why he still belongs on your radar in long-term keeper leagues. Chances are Sampson won't reach the majors this year, but a strong performance at Triple-A would certainly speed up his timetable. (Updated 1/2/13) |
