Mark DeRosa's playing time on the rise
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/9/13) Blue Jays infielder Mark DeRosa started for the second time in four games and drew his first start at second base Wednesday against the Rays. He's now appeared in five straight games for Toronto, batting .417 (5 for 12) with two walks, two doubles, two home runs, four runs and six RBI.

"DeRo had a good spring," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said, per MLB.com. "He came in from the get-go, swinging the bat well. One thing about him, he's a steady defender as well. If he gets to it, you're out. And he gets you a good at-bat every time he's up there."

Mark DeRosa breaks game open
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(5/5/13) Blue Jays third baseman Mark DeRosa broke Sunday's game against Seattle open in the fifth inning. DeRosa smacked a three-run home run in the frame off starter Joe Saunders to make the score 7-2.

DeRosa went 3 for 5 on the afternoon and added two doubles. He drove in and scored three runs and is batting .211 on the year.

DeRosa, not an everyday starter, has seen 38 at-bats this season and has two homers and nine RBI.

Mark DeRosa belts first homer of season
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/6/13) Blue Jays first baseman Mark DeRosa enjoyed a big night at the plate as he went deep for his first home run of the season Friday against the Red Sox.

DeRosa took starter Felix Doubront deep in the fifth inning for a solo home run. He also added a sacrifice fly in the second and finished 1 for 1 with two RBI and a run scored in a 6-4 victory. DeRosa is batting .200 through five at-bats this season.
Mark DeRosa, Maicer Izturis to split time at 3B
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(3/25/13) Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said he expects to have a rotation at third base to open the season now that Brett Lawrie will begin the year on the disabled list, reports MLB.com Monday.

Toronto expects to have a combination of Mark DeRosa and Maicer Izturis at third base while Emilio Bonifacio concentrates on playing everyday second base.

DeRosa, 38, has homered twice this spring with seven RBI and a .471 batting average over 34 at-bats. He struggled last year with Washington over 85 at-bats as he hit just .188, but he's getting another opportunity in the American League.

Izturis, who was expected to split time at second with Bonifacio with Lawrie healthy, has hit .239 this spring over 46 at-bats with nine RBI.

DeRosa homers in return to action
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(3/3/13) Toronto utility player Mark DeRosa started at third base on Sunday in Grapefruit League action against Philadelphia. DeRosa was unavailable on Saturday due to back soreness but is apparently OK. DeRosa went 2 for 3 on Sunday with his first home run of the spring, a solo shot in the sixth inning. He's batting .750 this spring.
