Guillen returns to Mariners: The Mariners signed 2B Carlos Guillen to a minor league deal with a spring training invite on Wednesday. Guillen had played for the Mariners for the first six years of his major league career, but he has played for the Tigers since 2004. Last season, Guillen hit .232 in 95 at-bats. (Updated 02/01/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Guillen will most likely be trying to secure a bench role with the Mariners, though with his versatility, he could amass a decent amount of playing time, provided he stays healthy. He will merely be a low-end option for owners in AL-only leagues. (Updated 02/01/2012).
11/01/2011 16:35 Tigers GM: Ordonez, Guillen not likely to return
Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski says it is highly unlikely free agents Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen will be back next season.
Carlos Guillen has struggled to stay healthy in recent years, and it may have cost him a full-time job with a major league team. Guillen has played fewer than 85 games in each of his past three seasons -- all with Detroit -- as he has dealt with a myriad of injuries that have derailed his once sterling offensive production. Now 36 years old, he signed a minor league deal with Seattle in the offseason and could land a spot on the bench for the upcoming season with a strong spring. The Mariners are in rebuilding mode and could use a veteran like Guillen, who can play several infield positions. He is no longer the standout hitter at the plate he was earlier in his career when he posted at least a .318 batting average in three consecutive seasons from 2004-06 with the Tigers. At his age, Guillen shouldn’t be relied on to stay healthy and he is unlikely to produce much power in spacious Safeco Field. Fantasy owners should pass on him during 2012 drafts, but keep an eye on his playing time if he sticks with Seattle. (Updated 2/6/12)
