Diamondbacks pitcher Archie Bradley continues to impress Saturday

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/21/15) Diamondbacks pitching prospect Archie Bradley continued to make an argument for making the final roster this spring with another strong performance Saturday. Bradley allowed two unearned runs on five hits and three strikeouts against the Dodgers.

"I made it a main point this spring to just attack guys," said Bradley to MLB.com. "If I'm going to get beat, I'm going to get beat instead of walking guys and letting them get on base for free. I'm just going to continue to do that and keep working at it."

Manager Chip Hale wants to keep Bradley around camp and thinks he has a shot to earn a spot in the rotation.

"From the day he's been here, he's been very professional about how he's done everything with his work," Hale said. "Every time he's pitched, he's had a great demeanor on the mound, great pace and those are all things that we like. He's done a nice job."

Bradley isn't worrying about that yet.

"That's kind of out of my mind," Bradley said. "I'm pleased with my outing. I got the work that I need to get done. That's one of those things, I'm just going to keep throwing and if it happens, it happens."

Diamondbacks GM David Stewart: P Archie Bradley 'not ready'

by Dave Peters | CBSSports.com
(3/20/15) Despite the confidence that Diamondbacks pitcher Archie Bradley is feeling, upper management does not share the same sentiment.

"Archie, in my opinion, is not ready," said Diamondbacks general manager Dave Stewart. "He's made great advances and he's made great steps, but for Archie to pitch on our major-league staff, he's got to challenge the (Josh) Collmenters and the (Rubby) De La Rosas and those guys."

Stewart is looking for Bradley to prove that he belongs in the rotation for the regular season.

"If he proves that he is going to be ready to be our fifth or fourth or one of our starters, then we're going to carry him," Stewart said of Bradley.

Diamondbacks manager impressed with Trevor Cahill, Archie Bradley

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/10/15) Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale is liking what competition for a spot in the starting rotation is bringing him, reports MLB.com. Tuesday, Trevor Cahill and Archie Bradley both threw in Arizona's game against the Athletics and liked what he saw from them.

"Trevor threw some good pitches," Hale said. "He was up a little bit early on and got a little bit quick, but the second inning was really good. His stuff was pretty good. There was some progress."

Cahill was a bit nervous in his first inning of work.

"First inning, I kind of got some jitters out, and then I was able to kind of calm down. I think the best thing was I was able to get some offspeed [pitches] over for strikes, which was tough last game," Cahill said. "With the different arm slot, I just had to set my sights a little different, so I was able to kind of figure out where to aim it to get it over for a strike."

Bradley felt confident throughout, allowing one run over his 2 1/3 innings.

"I felt like I threw the ball well," Bradley said. "A little uncomfortable out of the stretch, but overall I felt like I threw the ball very well."

Knuckle curveball a key pitch for D-Backs prospect Archie Bradley

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/24/15) Diamondbacks starting pitcher prospect Archie Bradley is hoping his knuckle curveball will be a pitch that carries him onto the major-league roster in 2015, per MLB.com.

"For a knuckle curve, you're not throwing it like a normal curveball where you're snapping your arm," Bradley said. "I was able to throw it at a young age, and it's just something that has been successful for me in pro ball.

"It's a pretty unique pitch. When I'm throwing it well, it has some pretty hard 12-to-six break. Sometimes I'll get on the side with it and make it go a little sideways, but for the most part, I just try to keep it the same and just keep going."

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale has been impressed with Bradley a few days into camp. Bradley is considered a top 100 prospect by Baseball America (No. 25) and MLB.com (No. 15).

"The workouts and everything that he has done so far have been fantastic," Hale said. "He's been very professional about his work and his bullpens are getting better and better."

Diamondbacks' Archie Bradley looking to bounce back in 2015

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(2/21/15) Diamondbacks pitcher Archie Bradley didn't have an ideal rookie camp in Arizona. But he's not letting that change how he feels heading into spring training this year.

Maybe I would have toned it down a little bit as far as not letting all the media and all the, I guess, hype or expectations ride on me," Bradley said. "I put pressure on myself anyway, and my goal was to make the team last year. It's the same this year, but I was so caught up on every pitch and every outing. You just can't pitch like that. You don't succeed when your mind-frame is like that and you put that much pressure on yourself."

Bradley went 3-7 in stints with three different minor-league clubs in 2014, posting a 4.45 ERA with 75 strikeouts in 83 innings pitched.

"For me, I would definitely say after the bad year I had last year, I'm coming in this year with a chip on my shoulder with something to prove," he said. "Last year was just a bad year for me. I'm looking for a bounce-back year."
