| Kolten Wong having slow start at Triple-A |

(5/5/13) Cardinals second base prospect Kolten Wong made it through the entire month of April without hitting a home run for Triple-A Memphis. Sadly, he hasn't connected for a home run through his first three games in May.
Wong is batting .294 with a .319 on-base percentage and .376 slugging percentage through 26 games. He has three triples, three doubles, four stolen bases, 11 RBI and 14 runs. MLB.com considers Wong the Cardinals' third-best prospect.

(3/23/13) The Cardinals reassigned Kolten Wong, Audry Perez, J.R. Towles, Seth Maness and Justin Christian to minor-league camp Saturday.
Wong, a first-round pick in 2011, batted .250 (7 for 28) with a homer and three RBI in 19 Cactus League games.

| (3/7/13) Cardinals prospect Kolten Wong hit his first home run of the spring on Thursday, taking Kelvin Perez deep in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game. Wong is batting .250 over 16 at-bats.

| By the end of the 2013 season, Kolten Wong will likely be the Cardinals' starting second baseman. They drafted him for that purpose and they've certainly left the door open by filling the position with a textbook stopgap option in light-hitting Daniel Descalso. Of course, in order to justify the switch, Wong will have to prove he's not a light hitter himself. The returns from his first full professional season were a little underwhelming. He'll have to hit for more pop to meet the Cardinals' lofty expectations. The good news is he did hit over .300 for much of the season before slumping late. As long as he maintains a high contact rate, the power will likely come as he fills out. Will enough of it come for him to make a worthwhile Fantasy contribution this season? It's difficult to say. He's worth stashing in deeper NL-only formats just in case, though. And obviously, he's a must-own in long-term keeper leagues. (Updated 1/4/13) |
