| Nationals pick up reliever from Astros |

(4/23/13) The Nationals claimed reliever Xavier Cedeno off waivers from the Astros Tuesday and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse. Cedeno was designated for assignment after posting an 11.37 ERA in 6 1/3 innings.

(4/18/13) The Astros have designated pitcher Xavier Cedeno for assignment.
The 26-year-old lefty threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing eight earned runs. Cedeno was reasonably effective in 31 innings with the team last season. If he's not claimed on waivers, he'll probably see more time with the Astros later this season.

| Bo Porter 'confident' in bullpen |

(3/28/13) Astros manager Bo Porter said Thursday he likes the makeup of his team's bullpen. While Jose Veras is expected to get the first chance to close games, Porter said the eighth-inning role will be determined by matchups. He mentioned Alex White could work in long relief, while Hector Ambriz and Rhiner Cruz are right-handed relievers that can pitch multiple innings. Porter mentioned Xavier Cedeno as a left-handed reliever who could pitch multiple frames.
“I love the fact we have two lefties down there who are capable of getting out some of the better left-handed hitters in our league,” he said to MLB.com. “We also have a long guy, we have a good mix of guys who can pitch in the back end. I’m pretty confident in our bullpen.”

(7/25/12) Houston has recalled reliever Xavier Cedeno from Triple-A Oklahoma City Wednesday. Cedeno was 2-0 with a 2.28 ERA over 22 appearances at Triple-A.
