Nationals re-sign Matt Purke to minor-league contract

|(11/17/14) The Nationals re-signed pitcher Matt Purke to a minor-league contract Monday, which includes an invite to major-league spring training. Purke is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery in May.
"We are excited to keep Matt in the organization and to keep his rehab on track," Nationals president of baseball operations and general manager Mike Rizzo said. "We look forward to seeing him rebound from his surgery during the upcoming season."

|(11/14/14) The pitching-rich Nationals have released southpaw Matt Purke, who has yet to pitch in the major leagues.
Purke is coming off a terrible season at Double-A Harrisburg. He recorded a 1-6 mark and 8.04 ERA with 42 hits and 18 walks allowed in 31 1/3 innings. He is also coming off Tommy John surgery.

|(10/31/14) The Nationals have activated Erik Davis and Matt Purke from the 60-day disabled list.
Davis underwent Tommy John surgery in April. Purke had the surgery in May. Both players will be eligible to return to the 60-day DL next season if they need more time to recover.

|(7/25/14) The Nationals recalled pitcher Matt Purke from Double-A Harrisburg and then placed him on the 60-day disabled list, in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Purke is recovering from Tommy John surgery and is out for the season.

|(5/28/14) Nationals pitching prospect Matt Purke will undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday, the team announced.
The procedure will be done by Dr. James Andrews. Purke made eight starts with Double-A Harrisburg this season, going 1-6 with an 8.04 ERA and 22:18 K:BB ratio in 31 1/3 innings. He'll be sidelined until at least the middle of the 2015 season while recovering.
