|Orioles make tweak to rotation |
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
(7/27/14) The Orioles announced Sunday they realigned their rotation for the upcoming week, per The Baltimore Sun.
Wei-Yin Chen, who was scheduled to start Wednesday against the Angels, has been pushed back to Friday against the Mariners. Chris Tillman, Kevin Gausman and Bud Norris will face the Angels during a three-game series, which starts Tuesday.
"Wei-Yin had his top pitch count of the year, and I want to keep Gaus on turn," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "I think he can benefit from that."
|Wei-Yin Chen goes eight strong, blanks Mariners |
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
(7/25/14) Orioles pitcher Wei-Yin Chen went eight innings strong for the win Thursday night against the Mariners in Seattle, improving to 11-3 on the year. The right-hander allowed five hits and one walk while striking out three in eight shutout frames.
Over his last three starts covering 18 2/3 innings, Chen has allowed six earned runs. He owns a 3.92 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP over 20 starts (117 innings). His next start will come Wednesday at home against the Angels.
|Wei-Yin Chen picks up win vs. A's Saturday |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(7/20/14) Orioles pitcher Wei-Yin Chen earned a win Saturday, giving up three earned runs on five hits and one walk in five innings and striking out four in his team's 8-4 victory over the A's.
Chen (10-3) has won each of his three starts in July, and he cruised to a win Saturday after the offense scored five runs in the first three innings. He owns a 4.21 ERA and 79:19 K:BB ratio in 109 innings. Chen is scheduled to face the Mariners Thursday.
|Wei-Yin Chen picks up ninth win vs. Nationals |
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
(7/10/14) Orioles pitcher Wei-Yin Chen (9-3) fell one out shy of a quality start on Thursday, but still came away with the win against the Nationals. The right-hander permitted three runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out six over 5 2/3 innings of a 4-3 win.
Over his last two starts covering 11 2/3 innings, Chen has allowed five earned runs. He owns a 4.15 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP over 18 starts (104 innings). The date for his next start after the All-Star break remains uncertain.
|Wei-Yin Chen missed a significant portion of the season with an oblique strain suffered in mid-May, denying Chen a chance to really build on a promising 2013 debut. Chen finished the season with a 4.07 ERA and 1.32 WHIP, striking out 104 batters in 137 innings. Most of the damage to his ratios came from an ugly six-game run to end the season, when Chen posted a 6.62 ERA and 1.81 WHIP. This season brings a fresh start for the 28-year-old, who still has potential to produce a low-3.00 ERA and 15 wins with a full season of innings pitched. Barring injury, Chen -- who won't strike out a lot of batters -- could give a Fantasy team some decent numbers as a cheap, late-round draft pick.
