Report: Teams appear very interested in Orioles' Wei-Yin Chen
|by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com|
|(12/6/14) Sources have indicated no player on the Orioles’ roster has drawn more interest from opposing teams than pitcher Wei-Yin Chen, reports the Baltimore Sun.
Chen is a free agent after the 2015 season and the Orioles appear willing to listen to offers for the left-handed pitcher. In 2014, Chen went 16-6 with a 3.54 ERA.

Report: Orioles make option decisions on three players
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(10/17/14) The Orioles have made decisions regarding team options on several players, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Among them is southpaw starter Wei-Yin Chen, whose $4.75 million option for 2015 will be picked up. The team will do the same for impressive right-handed reliever Darren O'Day, whose $4.25 million option will also be picked up.
The exception is catcher Nick Hundley. The team will not exercise his $2.5 million option, making him a free agent.
Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen takes loss in Game 3 of ALCS
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(10/14/14) Orioles pitcher Wei-Yin Chen was stuck with a loss Tuesday, surrendering two earned runs on seven hits and one walk in 5 1/3 innings while striking out four in his team's 2-1 defeat against the Royals in Game 3 of the ALCS.
Chen (0-1) gave up his first run on a groundout in the fourth inning and ran into further trouble in the sixth, when he was removed from a tie game with runners on first and third and only one out. The lead runner scored on a sacrifice fly, and the Orioles offense was unable to get the run back, taking a loss and falling behind 3-0 in the series. The two teams will play again Wednesday, with the Orioles hoping to stave off elimination.
Orioles-Royals Game 3 postponed
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(10/13/14) Game 3 of the American League Championship Series between the Orioles and Royals has been postponed due to rain.
With inclement weather on tap tonight in Kansas City, the league has moved Game 3 to Tuesday evening. Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie and Orioles pitcher Wei-Yin Chen will remain the probable starters for the rescheduled game. Game 4 and Game 5 (if necessary) are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
|2014 summary: Wei-Yin Chen's third season with the Orioles was his best to date, as he broke the 4.00 ERA barrier, finishing with a 3.54 mark. Improved walk and strand rates helped Chen to get his ERA back below the major league average for starters after rising above it in 2013. After going 19-18 over his first two seasons, Chen broke out to post a 16-6 record in 2014, though part of his success can be linked to his receiving 4.8 runs of support per nine innings. Despite the high win total, Chen fell short of the top 30 for starting pitchers in Fantasy value because he struck out just 6.6 batters per nine innings.
Playing time status: Chen should line up as the Orioles' No. 2 starter, and he has a chance to exceed 190 innings for just the second time in his career.
2015 outlook: The lefty continues to be prone to the long ball, even though he induced grounders at a career-high 42 percent last season. That's still not a high mark, and as long as Chen is prone to allowing contact in general and home runs in particular, he will struggle to provide reliable results in Fantasy. The level of run support he received last season was higher than what he could expect going forward, even if the Orioles produce another high-octane offense. Chen may have been a top 40 starter in 2014, but he can go undrafted in standard mixed leagues this season.
