|Marlins place A.J. Ramos on disabled list |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(7/1/14) The Marlins placed pitcher A.J. Ramos on the 15-day disabled list after Tuesday's game.
Ramos is dealing with a sore right shoulder, which has kept him sidelined since throwing 50 pitches in 1 2/3 innings on June 26. He said he was feeling better Tuesday, but the Marlins still decided to stick him on the disabled list and give him a chance to heal properly.

(7/1/14) Marlins pitcher A.J. Ramos is expected to be placed on the disabled list with a sore right shoulder, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
"In talking to him, he felt like he could grind it out if we really needed somebody, but the most important thing is for him to be healthy and 100 percent," manager Mike Redmond said. "As we've seen this first half so far, we've leaned on that bullpen pretty heavily and those guys have answered the bell. We have to make sure we take care of them for the long haul. A.J. is going to be huge for us the second half."
Ramos hasn't pitched since throwing 50 pitches while recording five outs on June 26. He owns a 2.17 ERA and 42:29 K:BB ratio in 37 1/3 innings.
|A.J. Ramos vultures win |
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
(5/4/14) Marlins reliever A.J. Ramos vultured a win Sunday against the Dodgers.
With Steve Cishek unavailable, Ramos entered the game with a one-run lead in the ninth. He blew the save, giving up a run on one hit and two walks. He did manage to record a strikeout in his inning of work.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Marlins managed to score on a walkoff hit from Jeff Baker. Ramos' record improved to 2-0. He has now blown two saves on the year.
|Marlins use four pitchers to complete no-hitter vs. Yankees |
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
(3/16/14) Led by Brad Hand, a dark-horse candidate to make the rotation, the Marlins used four pitchers to no-hit the Yankees Saturday night in an exhibition game in Panama.
Hand struck out six over five perfect innings before Steve Cishek and A.J. Ramos combined for two walks over three scoreless innings. Arquimedes Caminero pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out Adonis Garcia swinging for the final out of the game, completing a 5-0 win.
Before Saturday's result, the last spring training no-hitter for the Marlins came in March of 2009.
|A.J. Ramos turned in a pretty successful rookie season for the Marlins in 2013. He had his ups and downs, but Marlins manager Mike Redmond loved Ramos for his ability to pitch in any situation and he used the 27-year-old right-hander in pretty much every situation outside of closing out a game. Ramos went 3-4 with a 3.15 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 68 relief appearances. Ramos did deal with some command problems, walking 43 batters in 80 innings, but he worked out of a lot of jams thanks to a strong strikeout rate (9.7 K/9). Ramos also finished with 11 holds and was outstanding over the final three months, recording a 2.08 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 39 innings in his last 36 appearances. Ramos will probably be used in a myriad of situations again, so he has marginal Fantasy value without consistent save opportunities.
