Indians C Yan Gomes slugs three-run home run on Saturday
|by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer|
|(7/19/15) Indians catcher Yan Gomes went deep on Saturday, giving his team some unnecessary insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
Gomes blasted a three-run homer, his fourth of the year, as the Indians would go on to beat the Reds 9-4. It was Gomes' only hit of the game in five at-bats.

|(7/11/15) Yan Gomes will not start Saturday's game behind the plate for the Indians.
Gomes has started the last five games and eight of the last nine at catcher for Cleveland. He'll be replaced by Roberto Perez, who gets his third start of the month.
Indians C Yan Gomes finally finding comfort level at plate
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(7/6/15) A knee injury and the struggle to find his stroke has pretty much cost Indians catcher Yan Gomes half a season. But he's finally showing signs of life.
Gomes is batting .333 (7-for-21) in his last five games to end a 4-for-37 slide. PITCHf/x reports that he has slammed seven balls with exit velocities of at least 100 mph since June 16 after managing zero before the injury that knocked him out for six weeks. He is simply trying to grind his way through it.
"This game is so frustrating and so hard," Gomes told MLB.com. "And the more and more I think about looking at the board and seeing if I'm getting there, or if I'm going to get talks from you guys where I'm struggling or something, it's just some stuff that I can't even worry about.
"It comes down to good at-bats or hard outs or bloopers - whatever. It's going to work out the way it's supposed to work out. From my career, I know I'm a good hitter. I know things are going to turn out."
Gomes added that he's feeling better at the plate.
"You've just got to take it and know it's a good sign," he said. "I'm seeing the ball well."
Indians C Yan Gomes hits third home run of season Monday
|by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com|
|(6/29/15) Indians catcher Yan Gomes smacked his third home run of the season during Monday's 7-1 win over the Rays.
Gomes hit the solo shot off Kirby Yates in the eighth inning. He finished the game 3 for 5 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI.
Prior to his three-hit game Monday, Gomes was hitting .108 with one double and five RBI over his last 11 games.
Indians C Yan Gomes out of lineup for doubleheader finale
|by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer|
|(6/28/15) Indians catcher Yan Gomes won't be in the lineup for the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Orioles.
Gomes struggled in the first game of the day, going 0 for 3 while leaving one runner stranded on base.
Over his last eight games, Gomes has been a non-factor at the plate as he's hitting just .111 with three hits in 27 at-bats.
|2014 summary: Yan Gomes unexpectedly forced Carlos Santana off the primary catcher's role in 2013, and he did absolutely nothing to make the Indians reverse that decision in 2014. Gomes hit .278 and blasted 21 home runs, while he was fourth among catchers with 61 runs and fifth with 74 RBI. If Gomes displayed a weakness, it's that he walked only 24 times, which sank him to seventh in the Fantasy points rankings for catchers, as compared to fifth in Rotisserie value.|
Playing time status: Regardless of who the backup catcher was, Gomes didn't miss many starts, and only four catchers caught more innings last season. It should be more of the same this season.
2015 outlook: Gomes has hit for power consistently ever since his days in the Florida State League, but his .284 batting average over two season with the Indians has been a pleasant surprise. It might also be unsustainable, unless he can maintain last season's boost to his line drive rate (from 19 to 28 percent). Still, playing time and power should keep Gomes among the top 10 catchers.
