Yankees add Williams, Austin, two more to 40-man roster

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/20/14) The Yankees announced Thursday they added outfielder Tyler Austin, pitcher Danny Burawa, pitcher Branden Pinder and outfielder Mason Williams to the 40-man roster. The Yankees also sold the rights of infielder Zelous Wheeler to the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan’s Pacific League.

Williams was considered the Yankees' third-best prospect by Baseball America heading into the 2014 season.

Yankees take 12 players off spring roster

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/18/14) The Yankees removed 12 players from their spring roster Tuesday. Outfielder Ramon Flores was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while Francisco Arcia, Tyler Austin, Bruce Billings, Robert Coello, Brian Gordon, Corban Joseph, Mark Montgomery, Pete O'Brien, Jose Pirela, Mason Williams and Chase Whitley were reassigned to minor-league camp.

Tyler Austin hoping to play this week

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(3/16/14) Yankees outfielder Tyler Austin is hoping to play in a game this week, according to Lohud Yankees Blog.

Austin is planning to take batting practice on the field Monday. He's been dealing with a wrist injury during camp, but is starting to feel better. If he can get through batting practice, he should try and play in a game later in the week.

Yankees moving Tyler Austin to infield?

by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com
(10/9/13) The Yankees will play outfielder Tyler Austin at first base and third base in the Arizona Fall League, The Journal News reports.

Austin was drafted and has played much of his professional career as an outfielder. After a great 2012, Austin scuffled in his first full season at Double-A in 2013, where he hit .257/.344/.373 in 83 games. With Alex Rodriguez' future in doubt, though, the Yankees need options at third base, so if Austin shows he can hack it there, it wouldn't be surprising to see him open the season as a third baseman at Double-A or Triple-A.

Tyler Austin having down year in 2013

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/17/13) Yankees outfield prospect Tyler Austin has been trying to hit his way out of a slump for Double-A Trenton. Austin is mired in a 6-for-37 slump (.162) in his last 10 games, dropping his average to .254.

It hasn't been a banner year for one of the Yankees' top prospects. Austin, who entered the year considered the Yankees' third-best prospect by MLB.com, is slugging .367 in 81 games. He has one triple, six home runs, 15 doubles and 39 RBI in 81 games. He also has just four stolen bases after totaling a career-best 23 in 110 games in 2012.
