Rangers' Rougned Odor on demotion: 'I didn't feel like me'
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(5/12/15) Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor told reporters he was not upset about his demotion to Triple-A Round Rock, but did admit he wasn't himself at the plate this season, per the Dallas Morning News.
"I was swinging at a lot of bad pitches, I know that," Odor said. "I was not like me. I didn't feel like me. I wasn't hitting good. I kind of knew they might [demote him]. They sent me down and now I'm going to work. I don't want to get mad because if I do, I'll block myself from getting better."
Odor hit .144/.252/.233 with one home run, nine RBI and one stolen base in 90 at-bats this season at the time of his demotion.
Rangers option Rougned Odor after losing playing time to Rosales

|(5/11/15) The Rangers have optioned second baseman Rougned Odor, CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman reports.
The Dallas Morning News reported previously that Odor was on the verge of a demotion to Triple-A Round Rock. He has hit just .144/.252/.233 with one home run, nine RBI and one stolen base in 90 at-bats and has been out of the starting lineup for three straight games.
"Rougned definitely will be part of a winning formula in Arlington," manager Jeff Banister said, per MLB.com. "We felt it was time for Rougned to go down and get back to being the type of player that got him here: gritty, gutty, tough at-bats, play routine defense, play with his hair on fire all over the place.
"He is not unlike a lot of players who came up at a young age, had an amount of success, then the major-league atmosphere, major-league players, threw a punch at them. He needs to go down, get re-connected to the player he was, come back better and more capable of throwing a counter punch."
With Odor heading to Triple-A, Adam Rosales could see more playing time at second base moving forward. Rosales has started four of the last five games at second base but has hit just .167/.222/.310 in 42 at-bats.
In a corresponding move, the Rangers have purchased the contract of infielder Thomas Field from Round Rock. He has hit .298/.373/.538 with five home runs and 13 RBI in 104 Triple-A at-bats and is in the starting lineup Monday.
Rangers 2B Rougned Odor stirring up too much breeze
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(5/11/15) A propensity to swing and miss has Rangers 21-year-old second baseman Rougned Odor on the verge of a demotion to Triple-A Round Rock as early as Monday, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Odor is batting .144 on the year and has just seven hits in his last 58 at-bats. He has been benched in three of the last five games.
The reason is poor discipline at the plate. He has swung at 90 percent of 254 pitches outside the strike zone, per Brooksbaseball.net. He has missed on 36 percent of those attempts. In 2014, he swung on just 24 percent of pitches off the plate and whiffed on 23.5 percent of them.
It's no wonder he has 25 strikeouts in 90 at-bats and seems destined for regular playing time in the minors.
Rangers getting closer to decision on 2B Rougned Odor
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(5/10/15) The Rangers are still undecided on what to do with second baseman Rougned Odor, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Manager Jeff Banister said Sunday the team is moving closer to decision on Odor, who was benched for the third straight game. Odor is hitting just 7 for 58 to start the season.
Rougned Odor out of Rangers lineup again Sunday
|by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com|
|(5/10/15) Slumping Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor was held out of the lineup again Sunday. Adam Rosales replaced him at second base for the third straight game.
Odor has started once in the last five games and twice in the last seven, after starting 23 of the season's first 24 games. He's hitting .144 with 25 strikeouts in 90 at bats.
|2014 summary: At age 21 and with only 263 career at-bats above Class A, Rougned Odor found himself on his way to the majors in 2014 after Jurickson Profar's shoulder injury proved to be more than just a short-term thing, and for the first 3 1/2 months, he performed about as you'd expect for someone so young and so rushed. But over his final 103 at-bats -- a span of 29 games -- he began to show the potential that made him Baseball America's No. 42 prospect coming into the year, batting .291 with four home runs, two stolen bases and an .832 OPS.|
Playing time status: Just a few short weeks ago, Profar looked like he might threaten Odor's playing time at second base, but then he ended up needing surgery on the shoulder, which still wasn't fully recovered, and is expected to miss all of 2015 as well.
2015 outlook: Odor has the potential to be a five-category contributor at a middle-infield position -- a rare bird indeed -- and now that Fantasy owners have caught a glimpse of that potential, he figures to be a popular sleeper on Draft Day. You may not want to take him as your top second baseman, but as a backup or middle infielder, you have to like the upside in the late rounds.
