Marlins offer deals to Yelich, Hechavarria; Ozuna next
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(12/1/14) The Marlins have made long-term offers to outfielder Christian Yelich and shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria, and are expected to offer a contract extension to outfielder Marcell Ozuna early this week, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.
The offer to Yelich is patterned after the six-year, $31 million deal Pirates outfielder Starling Marte received, but for less money.
Marlins trying to work out new deals for Yelich, Hechavarria

|(11/17/14) Now that the Marlins have signed star outfielder Giancarlo Stanton to a long-term deal, the team is still trying to sign shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria and outfielder Christian Yelich to multiyear deals, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.
As far as outfielder Marcell Ozuna and starting pitcher Jose Fernandez are concerned, however, it appears it could be a little more difficult to work out contract extensions, especially for Fernandez.

Marcell Ozuna homers in third straight game Wednesday
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(9/10/14) Marlins outfielder Marcell Ozuna went 1 for 4 with a solo home run in his team's 4-1 loss to the Brewers Wednesday.
Ozuna delivered his opposite-field blast in the seventh inning, but it was all the offense the Marlins would muster in the game. It was his third straight game with a home run, and the outfielder is 12 for 24 in his last six games. Ozuna has hit .270/.319/.460 with 22 home runs and 83 RBI in 522 at-bats.
|2014 Summary: In 2013, Marcell Ozuna looked as if he were rushed to the majors, but he appeared to be right at home in 2014. Ozuna busted out with 23 home runs and 85 RBI, and he batted .269, even though his strikeout-per-at-bat ratio soared from 21 to 29 percent. It helped that Ozuna legged out 21 infield hits, though his .356 batting average on ground balls may have been too good to sustain into future seasons.|
Playing time status: Ozuna's season ended a week early due to a high ankle sprain, but he is expected to be ready for the start of spring training for the Marlins.
2015 Outlook: Ozuna's deteriorating contact rate would be far more concerning if he had not made some progress on his strikeout rate over the final quarter of the season (30 Ks in his final 136 at-bats). Best of all, Ozuna didn't sacrifice power in the process of making more frequent contact. He compiled the 12th-highest total of Fantasy points among outfielders over that period, and while he is not likely to maintain that sort of ranking over a whole season, it speaks to Ozuna's potential to be a top 30 outfielder or better.
