| Mets keeping Josh Edgin close |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (4/27/13) Mets manager Terry Collins said the team chose proximity when optioning pitcher Josh Edgin to Double-A Binghamton on Saturday instead of Triple-A Las Vegas. New York is also hoping the struggling left-hander can restore his confidence after he posted a 9.64 ERA in his first 11 appearances this season.
"If something happens, I want to be able to get him here fast," Collins told MLB.com. "I just said, 'Go to Binghamton. You're close. Go work and get your confidence back.' Again, that's what it's all about. When you're on that mound, you need to know you're going to make the pitch."

| Mets concerned with Josh Edgin |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (4/24/13) Mets reliever Josh Edgin had a night to forget Tuesday against the Dodgers.
Edgin, who entered the game in the eighth inning, gave up a two-run double to A.J. Ellis. He surrendered two runs and four hits in just one-third of an inning in a 7-2 defeat. Manager Terry Collins is concerned that Edgin's workload in 2012 may have taken something out of him this season.
With Shaun Marcum expected to be activated from the disabled list Saturday, Edgin could be the odd man out, according to ESPN.com.
"One of the things that I am just a little bit concerned about -- and I've seen it before, and we've mentioned it -- is a young pitcher like that, last year he got into a lot of games," Collins said. "He had a lot of appearances. He had a lot of games he warmed up and maybe didn't get in. All of those can lead to the next year just not having your arm respond right away. I've been there before where I've seen that. And I'm a little concerned that might be what we're facing here."

| Mets worried about Josh Edgin's velocity |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (4/18/13) Coming up through the Mets' system, reliever Josh Edgin made his name as a hard thrower out of the bullpen. After another poor outing Thursday against the Rockies, manager Terry Collins admitted he is worried about Edgin's arm strength early in the season.
"The one thing we've got to start seeing is the velocity," manager Terry Collins told ESPN.com, after Edgin allowed two runs in 2/3 innings in an 11-3 loss. "Today was a perfect scenario for him to come in, and he's leaving balls on the plate. But we're not seeing the velocity that we know he's got. It could be the weather. It could be the fact that it's cold and he's not getting loose, or as loose as he wants to be. But we certainly want to start seeing what we've seen in the past."
Edgin averaged 93.2 miles per hour on his fastball a year ago and he entered Thursday's outing averaging 92.7 miles per hour. However, velocity did not appear to be an issue for him against Colorado, as he averaged 93.1 miles per hour, according to BrooksBaseball.net. Edgin has now allowed seven earned runs in 6 2/3 innings, with five strikeouts and four walks.
