Blue Jays' Dalton Pompey yet to find offense at Triple-A
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(5/11/15) Blue Jays outfielder Dalton Pompey has struggled at the plate since being optioned to Triple-A Buffalo, going just 4 for 28 with two stolen bases in seven games.
Pompey was able to find some success with the Blue Jays in mid-April but was just 2 for 28 in eight games before being sent to the minors, where his offensive issues have persisted. Kevin Pillar isn't hitting the cover off the ball in May, so it's possible Pompey could get another shot at regular major-league duty once he gets back on track in the minors.
Blue Jays OF Dalton Pompey relaxed and re-focused in Triple-A

|(5/4/15) Blue Jays outfielder Dalton Pompey , who was optioned to Triple-A on Friday, went 0 for 3 on Sunday, his first game with Buffalo since his demotion. But Pompey is not solely concerned on the results.
"I felt good. I felt relaxed probably for the first time in a long time," Pompey said, per The Buffalo News. "I was just able to go out and play. I didn’t feel any pressure. It felt good. It was good to get out with the guys and pull out that victory. It was fun. It was fun to be a part of."
Pompey, who was born in Ontario, was the Opening Day center fielder for Toronto in 2015, but he struggled offensively. He had just two hits in his previous 28 at-bats before being sent down, and hit just .193 overall.
"I’m not going to lie. There was a little bit of pressure on myself as well as from outside sources, whether it’s friends, family, media, whatever," Pompey said. "I feel like that just comes with it but for me, personally, being from there, it was a lot. I can come here and refocus, get my mind right and hopefully do good things and get back up there and help the team win."
Blue Jays OF Dalton Pompey returns to starting lineup

|(4/29/15) Blue Jays outfielder Dalton Pompey returned to the starting lineup and is batting seventh for Wednesday's series finale against the Red Sox, according to Sportsnet.ca.
Pompey has been sidelined since Monday with a neck injury. He is hitting .205 (15 for 73) with two homers and six RBI over 20 games.
Toronto is an underdog (+125) at Boston, per VegasInsider.com.
|2014 summary: After doing almost nothing his first three years in the system, Dalton Pompey couldn't be stopped in 2014, beginning the year at high Class A and finishing it in the majors. He hit every step of the way, batting .317 with some extra-base pop and 43 stolen bases in 113 minor-league games. He wasn't quite as good in a September callup, but he finished strong, batting .320 (8 for 25) with four extra-base hits and a steal in his final seven games, all starts.|
Playing time status: With Colby Rasmus out of the picture, Pompey is poised to take over as the Blue Jays' starting center fielder, completing the storybook journey that began last year. Though the Blue Jays may try to work contact-hitting Kevin Pillar into the mix on occasion, Pompey's defense should make him a regular part of the lineup regardless of how well he hits.
2015 outlook: Pompey isn't all speed and defense, though. He's lauded for his athleticism, but he's become quite skilled at the plate, striking out 96 times in 480 at-bats between the majors and minors last year -- an impressive ratio for a toolsy 22-year-old who just ascended three levels in one year. Dexter Fowler seems like a reasonable comparison, though Pompey has less injury risk and certainly more speed, which makes him a sleeper for all formats on Draft Day.
