(4/9/13) Diamondbacks outfielder Alfredo Marte finally notched his first big league base hit on Monday in the third inning against Pittsburgh, MLB.com reports. Marte had been 0 for 6 to begin his career over his first eight plate appearances.
The 24-year-old drove in a run with his single to center off Jeanmar Gomez. Marte said it was a relief to get the milestone hit out of the way more than a week into the year.
"It felt good, it was amazing," Marte said through a translator. "First hit in the big leagues, it's awesome. It was very emotional for me. It's important to get the first one."

(4/3/13) Diamondbacks outfielder Alfredo Marte drew the start Tuesday in his major league debut against the Cardinals.
Marte, who earned a spot on the team thanks to injuries in the outfield during spring training, looked a bit overmatched in his first exposure to big league hurlers. He went 0 for 3 in the game, with a pair of strikeouts and a walk. The Diamondbacks lost the game, 6-1.

(3/30/13) Diamondbacks outfielder Alfredo Marte was considered a dark-horse candidate for a roster spot at the start of the spring, but injuries in the Diamondbacks' outfield have opened a chance for him to make the opening day roster.
Manager Kirk Gibson said Saturday that Marte will break camp with the team as a reserve outfielder. Marte will likely be on the team until Cody Ross is eligible to return from the disabled list.
Marte, who had never played above Double-A in his minor-league career, batted .190 in 42 at bats in the spring, but provides defensive support. He has plenty of experience in the outfield, having played at least 140 games at each outfield spot in the minors.
