Orioles demote pitchers Mike Wright, Tyler Wilson
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(6/20/15) Either the Orioles prefer players whose last names start with the letter "g" over those that begin them with the letter "w" or they simply made moves Saturday to benefit the team.
It is assumed to be the latter.
Baltimore promoted Kevin Gausman and Mychal Givens while optioning fellow pitchers Mike Wright and Tyler Wilson.
Wright lost his mojo after two excellent starts. He allowed 17 runs on 23 hits and eight walks in 13 1/3 innings over his last four outings and was knocked out in the second Friday night. He is departing with a 5.16 ERA.
Wilson, who is leaving less than a week after his promotion, fared far better. He yielded just four runs in 17 innings over five appearances, including one quality start.

|(6/19/15) Orioles starter Mike Wright lost his third straight game in as many starts, Friday against Toronto.
Wright gave up four runs on three hits and four walks in 1 1/3 innings. He's given up 17 runs over the last 15 1/3 innings, spanning four starts.
"It was tough. I feel like my last three outings have been a battle," said Wright. "I really don't know what's going on, but I don't walk this many people. I've got to figure some stuff out to give my team a chance."
Wright dropped to 2-3 on the season. His next start is Thursday at Boston.
Orioles SP Mike Wright allows five runs in loss

|(6/14/15) Orioles starting pitcher Mike Wright got rocked for five runs against the Yankees on Sunday.
Wright picked up his second loss of the season after throwing four innings and allowing five earned runs.
"He'll tell you that the command was a little bit off after that, but they did a good job like the Yankees always do of grinding pitchers and a lot of foul balls, then they put the ball in play and find the hole. You'd think a day like today you'd see some balls flying out of the ballpark. It's not like they beat him around. Obviously, they hit a couple balls hard, too. But we didn't mount much offensively," said manager Buck Showalter.
He walked three batters and allowed six hits, and only managed to strike out two batters.
"It [stinks] whenever you walk three people," Wright said. "I was throwing some good pitches and they kept fouling them off and kept battling. They ended up having the upper hand."
Wright (2-2) has a 4.13 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings of work this season.
