Orioles pitcher Mike Wright strikes out four in no-decision on Saturday
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(5/23/15) Orioles pitcher Mike Wright tossed seven scoreless innings on Saturday, allowing three hits in Baltimore's 1-0 loss to the Marlins in 13 innings, but did not factor into the decision.
Wright faced the minimum hitters through four innings, but ran into some issues in the fifth. After hitting leadoff man Martin Prado, Wright picked up two quick outs. Then after a walk put two men on, Wright forced a groundout to end the inning.
Wright, who remains 1-0, maintained his perfect 0.00 ERA in 14 1/3 innings of work.
"It's special. He got his first base hit tonight," manager Buck Showalter said to MASN Sports. "He'll probably like that more. So proud of him and Oliver. I know you all get tired of me talking about those guys, what's going on down there, but we're getting to see a reflection of it. We were short in the bullpen and those guys gave us meaningful (innings). ... To think we were going to get that out of them. Sleep fast and see if we've got enough people to get through tomorrow."
He will look to keep things rolling Thursday against the White Sox.
Orioles' Mike Wright wins major-league debut Sunday
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(5/17/15) Orioles pitcher Mike Wright earned a win in his major-league debut on Sunday, giving up four hits in 7 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out six and walking none in his team's 3-0 victory over the Angels.
Wright baffled the Angels in his start, with his lone extra-base hit allowed coming on a double by Albert Pujols. He threw 59 of his 90 pitches for strikes in the win.
"That is everything you dream of. Really fun. I was a little nervous that first inning, but tried to enjoy it," he said to MASN Sports.
"At times, I had everything working. But as a whole, my slider wasn't there but felt good all together. I felt amazing and 100 percent having that much rest."
Wright was called up with Bud Norris (illness) and Chris Tillman (back) unable to pitch. His performance could make the Orioles consider keeping him on the active roster.

|(5/16/15) Orioles right-hander Mike Wright will make his Major League debut and start on Sunday against the Angels. Wright was called up on from Triple-A on Wednesday, but has not made an appearance for the Orioles.
He made six starts for Norfolk this season, going 3-0 with a 2.64 ERA and a 30:9 K:BB ratio in 30 2/3 innings. He will get the start on Sunday in favor of Bud Norris (illness) and Chris Tillman (back) who each scratched from their scheduled starts.
The Orioles selected Wright in the third round of the 2011 amateur draft.
"He's another one of those guys we think highly of", manager Buck Showalter said, per MASNSports.com. "He's physically ready to go and hopefully he'll be able to present himself well against a good club. That's the team with the best record in the American League last year that we're facing. They're a good club. Very fundamentally sound."

In a corresponding move, the club recalled right-hander Mike Wright from Triple-A Norfolk to take his spot on the active roster. Wright has yet to pitch in a big-league game.
Orioles RP Jason Garcia could be headed to DL
|by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer|
|(5/13/15) The banged-up Orioles got another piece of bad news, as reliever Jason Garcia is scheduled to meet with doctors Wednesday and may be headed to the disabled list, per the Baltimore Sun.
While it isn't clear what is wrong with Garcia, the pitcher's velocity has decreased since spring training, from the high-90s to the mid-90s. Garcia has appeared in eight games this season, with an ERA of 5.93.
The Orioles are expected to replace Garcia on the roster with reliever Mike Wright , who is 3-0 with a 2.64 ERA in six starts at Triple-A Norfolk.
