|Eugenio Suarez a no-go for clash against Indians |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(7/20/14) Slumping Tigers shortstop Eugenio Suarez is grabbing some pine for the Sunday game against visiting Cleveland. Andrew Romine is manning the position instead.
Suarez has been hitless in four of his last five games. He has managed just two hits in 16 at-bats during that stretch to weaken his stat line to a still-respectable .259/.344/.407.
|Hype still lagging on Eugenio Suarez |
|by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(6/17/14) With Jon Singleton, Oscar Taveras, Gregory Polanco and now Andrew Heaney hogging the spotlight, Eugenio Suarez's promotion two weeks ago barely registered in Fantasy even though his shortstop eligibility makes him potentially the most helpful to Fantasy owners.
Which isn't to say he's more valuable than those four -- he's not the same caliber of prospect by any stretch of the imagination -- but Suarez's pedigree suggests he could make an impact similar to the one Brad Miller made last season.
The power is legitimate. Granted, he won't homer at quite the pace he has so far, but he'll rack up his share of extra-base hits. It's new to his game this year -- he had a .510 slugging percentage in 198 at-bats between Double- and Triple-A prior to his promotion -- but seeing as he's only 22, it's a logical part of his development.
He was a disciplined hitter throughout his minor-league career as well, compiling an on-base percentage about 90 points higher than his batting average -- which is even better than Miller, actually.
Ranking him among the steady-but-unspectacular types like Jhonny Peralta and Erick Aybar is tricky, but if you're shooting for upside, Suarez is the shortstop to own.
|Report: Tigers unlikely to trade for shortstop |
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
(6/16/14) The Tigers are unlikely to trade for Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins or another other shortstop, sources told FOX Sports. The team likes shortstop Eugenio Suarez and are satisfied with how Hernan Perez is progressing at Triple-A Toledo.
|Eugenio Suarez homers, collects three hits Saturday |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(6/14/14) Tigers shortstop Eugenio Suarez delivered a big performance at the plate Saturday, going 3 for 4 with a walk, a double, a triple, a home run, two RBI and three runs scored in his team's 12-9 win over the Twins.
Suarez was 5 for 16 in seven appearances with the Tigers before exploding on Saturday. He delivered the first run in a big third inning Saturday with his third home run then added another RBI later in the inning with his double. He scored for the second time in the fifth inning after drawing a walk and scored his third run after a seventh-inning triple. With the big performance, Suarez has hit .400/.500/1.000 in 20 at-bats.
