Fantasy Analysis
Pineiro has been considered an option for a spot start here or there but has not yet to get the call. The Orioles may use him as a long reliever later on in the season, when he's healthy. Pineiro has low-end Fantasy value at this time. (Updated 05/14/2012).
09/25/2011 20:20 Angels lose a heartbreaker to the A's, now three back
Rookie closer Jordan Walden wasted a three-run lead in the ninth inning, throwing away a potential game-ending grounder as the Los Angeles Angels' playoff hopes were dealt a devastating blow with a 6-5 loss to the Oakland Athletics on Sunday.
09/20/2011 22:26 Angels top Blue Jays, gain ground in wild-card chase
Mark Trumbo hit a three-run homer, Vernon Wells added a solo shot and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Toronto Blue Jays 10-6 on Tuesday night.
09/13/2011 01:21 Athletics 6, Angels 3
Josh Willingham hit his 25th home run and drove in four runs to help the Oakland Athletics chase starter Joel Pineiro early again in a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night.
After posting double-digit wins with a sub-4.00 ERA the previous two seasons, Joel Pineiro had a down campaign in 2011. He started the year on the DL due to tightness in his shoulder and went 2-0 with a 2.67 ERA over his first five starts. But after recording a 6.59 ERA over his next 13 outings, the right-hander was demoted to a bullpen role. He would make it back in the rotation down the stretch and finished the year 7-7 with a 5.13 ERA in 27 appearances (24 starts). Pineiro signed a minor-league deal with the Phillies in the offseason and will try and earn a spot on the 25-man roster. Philadelphia's rotation looks pretty full heading into 2012 so the 33-year-old might have to settle for a role out of the bullpen. Pineiro is not shaping up to be the best option in Fantasy so plan on ignoring him in all but the deepest NL-only formats -- as a flier -- on Draft Day. (Updated 2/14/12)
