Astros starter Collin McHugh dominant in victory

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(6/28/15) Collin McHugh was on top of his game Sunday, powering through the Yankees lineup during his eight innings of work, allowing just two singles as the Astros earned a 3-1 victory.

McHugh picked up his third straight victory while striking out eight batters and walking two. He threw 106 pitches and delivered 18 first-pitch strikes to the 28 batters he faced.

Over his last three starts, McHugh has allowed just six earned runs to drop his ERA from 5.08 to 4.51.

McHugh scattered nine hits, which led to two runs over eight innings of work. He also struck out six and walked one during the outing to earn his eighth win of season.

McHugh has tossed a quality start in three of his last four starts. His next expected start is scheduled for Sunday against the Yankees.

Astros SP Collin McHugh strikes out eight, picks up win

by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer
(6/18/15) Astros starting pitcher Collin McHugh picked up his seventh win of the season in Thursday's game against the Rockies.

McHugh threw six innings, allowed four hits and three earned runs. His command was spotty as he walked five batters but managed to strike out eight others.

McHugh (7-3) has a 5.04 ERA this season.

Astros SP Collin McHugh torched for eight runs on Saturday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(6/13/15) Astros starter Collin McHugh was knocked around for eight runs on nine hits in just 3 2/3 innings on Saturday against the Mariners. McHugh walked two and struck out one, as he never really got going in this one.

McHugh (6-3) got in deep trouble early, allowing five runs in the first inning, including a three-run bomb off the bat of Logan Morrison. Morrison got him again for a two-run shot in the third.

Saturday's performance was the worst of the season for McHugh in terms of innings pitched and earned runs allowed. His ERA ballooned to 5.08 on the season.

"You got to fix something," he said, per MLB.com. "I got to figure something out. It's frustrating because my stuff's not very sharp right now. But my body feels good, my arm feels good. I feel good in between starts. That's just a matter of kind of getting over the hump, getting back to where we need to go. I think I'm close, it's just today is one of those days, it gets away from you real fast."

He'll look for better results his next time out, scheduled for Thursday in Colorado.

Astros' Collin McHugh tosses quality start vs. Blue Jays

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(6/7/15) Astros pitcher Collin McHugh didn't factor into the decision on Sunday, giving up three earned runs on seven hits and one walk in six innings while striking out three in his team's 7-6 loss to the Blue Jays.

"As the starting pitcher, even if you don't have your sharpest stuff on the day, you gotta go out there every inning and try to keep it at par," McHugh said, per MLB.com.

McHugh served up a solo homer in the first inning and a two-run homer in the fourth, and he was on the hook for the loss before the Astros offense racked up four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-3 lead and put him in line for a win. However, the Blue Jays scored three runs of their own in the bottom of the ninth to pull out the victory.

McHugh owns a 4.34 ERA and 61:14 K:BB ratio in 76 2/3 innings. He's scheduled to square off with the Mariners at home on Saturday.

"I don't think it's any secret, I haven't been very sharp lately with any of my outings probably in the last month," he said.
