Mets' Collins: Closer role is Bobby Parnell's job to lose

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/8/14) Mets manager Terry Collins indicated Monday there will be a competition for the closer's role this spring, even though Jenrry Mejia performed well in the role last season. In fact, Collins even said injured reliever Bobby Parnell, who missed the 2014 season due to Tommy John surgery, is the incumbent closer.

"It's Bobby's (job) to lose," Collins said, per NJ.com. "I love competition."

Collins also mentioned Jeurys Familia and Vic Black as options for the closer's role. The Mets totaled 42 saves in 2014, with Mejia having a team-high 28 saves. Familia was second on the team with five.

Mets pitcher Vic Black good to go

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10/29/14) Mets pitcher Vic Black is good to go, according to the Star-Ledger

Black was sidelined late in the year due to neck and shoulder issues, but is expected to have a normal offseason. He'll be able to resume throwing next month, and said his shoulder feels "great."

Vic Black likely done for the season

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/15/14) An MRI Monday revealed a mild rotator cuff strain for Mets reliever Vic Black, according to MLB.com, likely ending his season. He's not done just yet, though. The New York Daily News reports he will be shut down for 5-6 days and will attempt to throw after that.

Black experienced weakness in his shoulder, as well as reduced velocity, in his last appearance Saturday against the Nationals. It was just his second appearance since returning from a DL stint for a herniated disk in his neck.

Vic Black still plagued by neck injury

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9/14/14) The Mets are concerned pitcher about the status of pitcher Vic Black, who was recently activated from the disabled list.

Black returned on Monday against Colorado and allowed a solo home run to Nolan Arenado. His next outing, he allowed one run on one hit over one inning of work against the Nationals. According to ESPN New York, he has a herniated disk in his neck and lower arm slot. He is expected to be examined by a specialist on Sunday.
