|by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer|
|(6/24/15) Padres right-hander Brandon Maurer was solid in relief on Tuesday, tossing two shutout innings and allowing just one walk as he picked up his fifth win of the season.
Maurer (5-0) worked the ninth and tenth innings of the Padres' extra-innings victory over the Giants. He struck out two, and he has not allowed a run in 11 appearances this month. Overall, he owns a 2.40 ERA with a 28:9 K:BB ratio.

|(6/10/15) Padres manager Bud Black said relief pitchers Joaquin Benoit and Brandon Maurer will not be available to pitch in Wednesday's game at Atlanta, reports The Mighty 1090 Sports Radio.
Maurer and Benoit have pitched an inning in each of the last two games. The team recalled Nick Vincent to provide depth in the bullpen for Wednesday's contest.
Padres RP Brandon Maurer settling into late-inning role

|(5/25/15) Padres pitcher Brandon Maurer has not allowed a run in his last 10 outings and pitching coach Darren Balsley said Maurer has found his role in the seventh inning, reports MLB.com.
"I think it's one of the most pivotal innings in baseball… especially when you have the lead," Balsley said.
Maurer has only surrendered four hits over his last 11 games and he has a 2.14 ERA on the season.
"He's doing a really good job," Padres manager Bud Black said. "With each successful outing he gains that confidence. This guy has good stuff; fastball, slider, changeup. I think he found early Major League niche in the bullpen with the Mariners. We've continued that role here. This guy has a good arm and pitches."
Padres pitcher Brandon Maurer provides relief for tired bullpen

|(5/3/15) Padres pitcher Brandon Maurer tossed two perfect innings in Saturday's game against the Rockies, providing some much needed rest for a tired bullpen, according to MLB.com.
With many arms in the bullpen hurting, Maurer came through, needing 23 pitches over two innings to set things up for closer Craig Kimbrel.
"The way our bullpen is, we're sort of running out of options if we want to keep guys fresh for tomorrow and moving forward," Padres manager Bud Black said after Saturday's game. "… I thought Brandon could go another inning. He had two days off. I liked the way he was throwing."
Maurer has a 1-0 record with a 3.75 ERA in 12 innings of work so far this season.
"For him to go back another inning, physically it's not taxing, but mentally he's got to be on board. We very quickly told him he was going back at it. He threw the ball very well. Fastball, slider and change were very effective," Black said. "I didn't think they had good swings on him.
Padres deal with bullpen woes in Monday's loss to Astros

|(4/28/15) Padres relievers Brandon Maurer, Joaquin Benoit and rookie Cory Mazzoni, who was making his major-league debut, combined to surrender six earned runs in two innings of work in San Diego's 9-4 loss to Houston Monday.
While Kevin Quackenbush was able to get out of the eighth inning without being charged with an earned run after Benoit let the first four batters of the inning reach base, the team now owns a 2.08 ERA, which ranks 20th in the majors.
"We need to get on a little bit of a bullpen roll," manager Bud Black said after the game, per MLB.com
Benoit (3-1) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on two hits and two walks while failing to record an out.
"They're making some mistakes, leaving the ball up in the zone, out over the middle of the plate," catcher Derek Norris said. "We've just got to execute some pitches better in some situations."
Black believes the bullpen will pitch better moving forward.
"They'll come around. They're not pitching like they're going to pitch," he said. "When you see their numbers at the end of the year, they'll be there. When you see their numbers now as a group, there are two or three guys not hitting on all cylinders."
