|Steven Wright's knuckler wrong Tuesday |
|by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com|
(8/6/13) Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright took the mound for his first career major league start Tuesday night in Houston. After earning his first two major league wins in relief in his last two big league outings, Wright struggled badly with his command Tuesday.
The starter avoided taking the loss as the Red Sox pounded the Houston pitching staff. His record remains 2-0 on the year. That said, he lasted just one inning as he needed 38 pitches to complete that frame. He walked two batters and allowed one base hit. Robbie Grossman scored the game's first run on a passed ball and Brandon Barnes scored another passed ball in the first as Wright's knuckleball was bouncing all over the place.
Wright gave up three runs in his only inning and struck out one batter. His ERA moves to 5.40 as he's not likely to get another start going forward for manager John Farrell. If he does get another start it would likely come Sunday at Kansas City.

The Red Sox will use the opportunity to get the rest of its rotation some rest heading into the stretch run. Wright owns a 3.65 ERA in 12 1/3 innings out of the bullpen for Boston to go with a 3.89 ERA in 19 starts for Triple-A Pawtucket.
