Red Sox recall Steven Wright, option down Noe Ramirez
|by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com|
|(12:16 pm ET) The Red Sox recalled pitcher Steven Wright from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Wright is 2-3 with a 3.00 ERA in six starts at Pawtucket. He's 3-2 with a 4.15 ERA in previous stints with the Red Sox earlier this year.
To make room for Wright, the Sox optioned Noe Ramirez to Triple-A. Ramirez made his MLB debut and took the loss in the tenth inning of Friday's game.
“High number of innings out of the bullpen — we need a fresh arm and someone capable of going multiple innings,” manager John Farrell said, per WEEI.
Red Sox demote P Steven Wright, add C Erik Kratz to roster

|(6/23/15) The Red Sox have optioned knuckleballer Steven Wright to the minors and placed catcher Erik Kratz on the roster, the Boston Globe has reported.
Wright performed decently as a sometimes-starter, but pitched exclusively out of the bullpen recently. He allowed five runs in his last 3 2/3 innings to motivate the demotion.
The 35-year-old Kratz earned just four at-bats with Kansas City earlier in the year before being waived, then signed by the Red Sox.
Farrell chooses Joe Kelly over Stephen Wright for rotation spot
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(6/7/15) Red Sox right-handed knuckleballer Steven Wright has been consistent and effective as a starter. Joe Kelly has been inconsistent and greatly ineffective.
No matter. John Farrell has booted the former to the bullpen and left the latter in the rotation.
Wright has pitched between 5 and 6 1/3 innings and allowed two or three runs in each of his six starts to post a 2-2 record and 4.01 ERA. Kelly has given up at least five runs in four of his 10 outings. He is 2-4 with a 5.40 ERA.
But Farrell belives Kelly has more upside and Wright is versatile enough to make the transition. "Both have pitched well enough to either remain in the rotation or earn a rotation spot," he told ESPN. "But when you set aside a couple of bumps Joe Kelly has had of late ... he's got the ability to be a dominant starter."
Among those bumps was a start against Minnesota in which he surrendered seven runs on eight hits in 1 2/3 innings. But Kelly rebounded in his last two opportunties by yielding only two runs in 11 innings.
Red Sox SP Steven Wright gets no-decision on Thursday
|by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer|
|(6/4/15) Red Sox starter Steven Wright was left with a no-decision in Thursday's series-finale against the Twins. Wright gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits over six innings. He struck out two and did not issue a walk, as the Red Sox fell 8-4.
The big blow against Wright was a three-run home run from Torii Hunter in the top of the fifth inning with the Red Sox leading 4-0. Wright then allowed an un-earned run to score in the sixth to knot the game up at four.
"Today I felt pretty good out there. I had really good knuckleballs and was able to keep it down and change speeds," Wright said, per MLB.com. "One bad pitch changed the outcome of the game for me."
Wright's ERA went up to 4.01 on the season. He has been fairly decent since moving into the rotation on May 17. He has given up three runs or fewer in all four starts this season.
He's expected to make his next start on Thursday in Baltimore.
Red Sox's Farrell: We're not planning to stick with six-man rotation
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(6/4/15) The Red Sox will return to a five-man rotation following this weekend's series against the Athletics, manager John Farrell told reporters Thursday.
“Our plan is not to [stick with six guys],” Farrell said, per WEEI.com. “We’ll get through this weekend where we need all six starters, but coming out of the off-day [Monday], it’s our intent to get back to five starters. We have the remainder of this next series to work through that.”
Farrell said Eduardo Rodriguez will slide between Clay Buchholz and Rick Porcello in the rotation. It appears Wade Miley also as a spot in the rotation, so the final spot is down to Joe Kelly and Steven Wright.
