Red Sox call up OF Jackie Bradley, option pitcher Steven Wright
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(4/28/15) The Red Sox have called up outfielder Jackie Bradley from the minors and optioned pitcher Steven Wright back to Triple-A, according to the Boston Globe.
“We needed to add another position player,” manager John Farrell said, per WEEI.com. “Mike Napoli is still day to day and with last night’s outing of Joe Kelly and where we came through last night, felt like our bullpen was caught up enough to go back to 12 pitchers. Jackie will be in a reserve role coming off the bench.”
Bradley started the season with Triple-A Pawtucket and is hitting .315 with seven doubles and six RBI in 73 at-bats. Wright was called up Tuesday by Boston as an emergency option if the bullpen needed extra help. He threw five innings this season with a 3.60 ERA and three walks.

|(4/27/15) The Red Sox recalled pitcher Steven Wright from Triple-A Pawtucket Monday and optioned pitcher Heath Hembree to the same team.
"Steven being here in the event something unforeseen takes place we have someone to protect us with length," manager John Farrell said, per WEEI.com. "We needed to go to the bullpen early yesterday, but that’s where we are today."
Wright made one appearance for the Red Sox earlier this season, allowing two runs while pitching five innings in relief. He has also allowed 13 runs (eight earned) in 11 innings over two starts with Pawtucket this month.
"It's been up and down the last couple of years and I know that that's my role so if they need innings then I get an opportunity to come up here and pitch some innings," Wright said. "And then if they need a starter, I'm ready. For me, it's just knowing that I'm going to come up here just to pitch. I'm not going to have a set role, just whenever they need me I'm going to be ready to go."
Hembree was rocked in his season debut Sunday, allowing six earned runs on six hits and one walk in 1 1/3 innings of relief while striking out three.

Kelly opened the season on the disabled list due to a biceps injury but is ready to take the mound for Saturday's start against the Yankees. Wright picked up a win Friday after pitching five innings in relief in his team's 19-inning victory.

|(4/11/15) Red Sox relief pitcher Steven Wright pitched five innings of relief and picked up the win in Friday's 19-inning marathon win over the Yankees. He allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out one in a 6-5 victory. Wright opens the season with a 3.60 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP.
Earlier in the week, manager John Farrell wasn't sure whether he would start Joe Kelly or Wright Saturday in New York. By Thursday, Kelly was cleared to start on Saturday, making Wright an option out of the bullpen. On Friday, Wright was the last man in the bullpen.
"It fell kind of into our lap," manager John Farrell said.
Red Sox's Kelly on track to start Saturday after Farrell changes plans
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(4/9/15) Red Sox starting pitcher Joe Kelly (biceps) is now expected to start Saturday against the Yankees after originally being scratched in favor of Steven Wright, manager John Farrell said Thursday. Farrell said he switched his mind after watching Kelly throw in the bullpen Wednesday.
However, Farrell added Kelly will probably be on a fairly low pitch count since he didn't throw more than 78 pitches during spring training. Farrell said Kelly probably won't throw more than a few pitches over that number.
