Preseason Outlook

After 11 seasons, seven teams and who knows how many strikeouts, Branyan finally got an opportunity to play full-time in 2009, and he made the most of it, hitting a career-high 31 homers. He had his usual battles with consistency, hitting .323 in April and May compared to .209 thereafter, but he never got a chance to rebound after a herniated disk ended his season in August. That injury combined with his late-season slump might prevent Branyan from landing another everyday job in 2010, but even in a semi-regular role, his power makes him worth a flier late on Draft Day. Just don't expect a high batting average, not with the way he strikes out. (Updated 12/9/09)
