Dodgers could seek a No. 5 starter as Ryu remains without a timetable
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(11:49 am ET) The Dodgers could be in the market for a No. 5 starter, as South Korean hurler Hyun-Jin Ryu remains without a timetable for return in his recovery from a shoulder impingement, reports CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.
Ryu was limited to two spring starts and has not pitched since March 17 due to the issue. The Dodgers have used swing man David Huff for a spot start on April 14 and Mike Bolsinger on Thursday to fill in that role.
Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) remains without timetable

|(4/19/15) Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) continued his throwing program Sunday, throwing for a third straight day from about 90 feet, but he remains without a timetable to get back on the mound, TrueBlueLA.com reports.
"I don't know when I'll be able to throw a bullpen. I've just been throwing outside on the field," Ryu said Sunday through an interpreter. "So far it's just making sure I have no pain. At this condition I probably could [throw a bullpen session] but I haven't thrown long toss yet."
Ryu hasn't pitched since March 17 due to a shoulder impingement, but he isn't focusing on a specific timetable at this point.
"I haven't thought about a timetable," Ryu said. "I'm just doing what they tell me."
Ryu did say that he's not feeling any pain in his shoulder while throwing.

Ryu will take Sunday off from throwing and then is scheduled to have throwing sessions on both Monday and Tuesday in an attempt to strengthen his arm and return to the Dodgers rotation.

Dodgers place Kenley Jansen, Hyun-jin Ryu and Brandon Leauge on DL
|by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com|
|(4/5/15) The Dodgers placed pitchers Kenley Jansen, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Brandon League on the 15-day disabled list to begin the season, according to SB Nation's True Blue LA.
Jansen is recovering from foot surgery on Feb. 17, Ryu has left shoulder inflammation and League has right shoulder inflammation. League is the most likely of the three to endure a longer recovery period.
Ryu is hoping to come back in late April and Jansen is expecting to return in early May.
|2014 summary: Due to a quirk of scheduling, Hyun-Jin Ryu started three of the Dodgers' first six games, but shoulder and gluteal injuries ultimately limited him to 26 starts. Though his ERA didn't reflect improvement, rising from 3.00 to 3.38, Ryu progressed in his second season, as he bettered his strikeout and walk rates. Ryu didn't have many early exits, but he also didn't often pitch deep into games. He exceeded six innings 11 times and pitched more than seven innings just once, so Ryu gave his Fantasy owners a mere 152 innings.|
Playing time status: The same shoulder issue that bothered Ryu last season -- inflammation, the Dodgers are calling it -- popped up again this spring, forcing him to the DL to start the year. MRIs have shown no structural damage, though, so it's considered to be a minor injury. He should return at some point in April.
2015 outlook: Because of the recent injury, Ryu could potentially slide on Draft Day, but clearly he has top-30 potential at starting pitcher. He was probably fortunate to have allowed only eight home runs all season, so his ERA may not improve, but he should continue to be a steady standard mixed league presence who deserves to start the vast majority of weeks. He remains a solid middle-round target.
