Phillies' Adam Morgan wins first MLB start

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(6/21/15) Phillies pitcher Adam Morgan won his first MLB start on Sunday, with a win over St. Louis.

Morgan's victory was his first at any level since August 6, 2013 with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

"I was more anxious and excited to see how my stuff played," Morgan said, per MLB.com. "Asking these guys some first-time advice about their debuts, and they're like, 'Don't look up.' [Cameron] Rupp did a good job just telling me, 'Just me and you catching.' That's what I did. I didn't look up and played the game of baseball."

Morgan went 5 2/3 innings and gave up one run on six hits. He walked two and struck out six, surrendering one home run.

Morgan was the first Phillies starter to pitch more than five innings and allow fewer than three runs since June 14. He's the first to earn a win since May 23.

"Morgan really stepped up with the opportunity and was outstanding," manager Ryne Sandberg said. "A lot of composure out there, good stuff, good control, mixed his pitches against a very good offensive lineup. For his debut, to face them and do the job he did, he was terrific."

The team still hasn't announced its starter for the next time the spot comes up in the rotation.

Phillies pick Adam Morgan to start Sunday vs. Cardinals

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/19/15) The Phillies have tabbed pitcher Adam Morgan to start Sunday's game against the Cardinals, the team announced Friday. He will be recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The 2011 third-round pick is 0-6 with a 4.74 ERA in 13 starts for Lehigh Valley. He is 13-28 with a 3.53 ERA in 69 career outings (68 starts) in the minors.

"He's been throwing well," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said, per MLB.com. "I think it will be good to add a left-hander in the mix here, and he's been doing a good job. He's done well. Saw him in the spring with what he had, so I'm anxious to see him."

Phillies' Jesse Biddle among six sent down to minor-league camp

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Phillies' Adam Morgan returns to mound with win

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(3/9/15) Phillies pitcher Adam Morgan returned to the mound on Monday with two scoreless innings.

Morgan, who suffered a shoulder injury in August, 2013 that kept him out all last year, earned the win, allowing two hits in his relief stint.

""My arm felt great," he told MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. "I've got to start fine-tuning my command. I just have to stay on top and keep on going. I was anxious and excited and a little bit nervous, but I think that being a little bit nervous is good for you."

"He looked like he had a good arm," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said. "He showed some composure out there. Really my first look at him, but I liked what I saw."
