|Tommy Kahnle picked in Rule 5 draft |
|by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(12/12/13) The Rockies selected reliever Tommy Kahnle from the Yankees in the Rule 5 draft Thursday and will give him a chance to win a bullpen spot. Kahnle had a 2.85 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 11.1 strikeouts per nine innings in 46 appearances for Double-A Trenton last season.
"We had a couple of above-average reports on him as it relates to projection," Rockies director of professional scouting Jon Weil told MLB.com. "He pitches at 96-98 [mph], a big strong right-hander, good slider, attacks the zone very aggressively. He has a big, strong durable build [listed at 6-foot-1, 230 pounds]. We felt with the power he brings, he could bring a nice complement to compete for our bullpen."
