Deven Marrero a doubles machine
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/9/13) Red Sox shortstop prospect Deven Marrero is making plenty of contact at the plate early on for Class A Salem. Marrero is batting .412 (7 for 17) through four games.

Marrero had a three-double performance Monday at Potomac and has four doubles in his last two games. Although he doesn't have a home run, Marrero is slugging .647. He also has one RBI and two stolen bases.

Marrero is considered the Red Sox's 10th-best prospect by Baseball America and MLB.com. He was a 2012 first-round pick.

Red Sox ship out three players
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(3/4/13) The Red Sox made their first roster cuts of the spring Monday and optioned pitcher Drake Britton to Double-A Portland, while reassigning second baseman Justin Henry and shortstop Deven Marrero to the team's minor-league camp.
Marrero already in majors camp
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/10/13) Less than a year after being drafted, Red Sox shortstop prospect Deven Marrero is in major league camp as a non-roster invitee. The Red Sox public relations staff said Marrero is the first position since Scott Hatteberg in 1992 to be invited to major league camp in his first year after being drafted, according to ESPN. "We looked at it and talked about that we haven't taken a college position player that high in a while," Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said of Marrero. "He's a kid we've known for so long, back to high school. Typically it's not something you do, bring a draftee from last year to camp, but we felt we knew him well enough, he's played a lot of baseball at a high level -- college, Team USA -- and he plays a premium position. We just wanted to get him exposed to the major league staff and felt it appropriate in this case."
