Braves SP Matt Wisler receives win in Monday's start

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(7/7/15) Braves pitcher Matt Wisler was one out shy of recording a quality start in Monday's 5-3 win over the Brewers.

Wisler allowed three runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings of work Monday. He also struck out six and walked one. His biggest mistake was giving up a solo home run to Gerardo Parra in the first inning. Wisler is now 3-1 with a 3.13 ERA.

Wisler has surrendered a total of three runs over his last 11 innings of work and he has won his last two starts.

Braves SP Matt Wisler gets rocked in second-career start

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(6/25/15) Braves rookie pitcher Matt Wisler's second-career start was not as impressive as his debut last week. On Thursday, the right-hander lasted just four innings against the Nationals, giving up six runs (four earned) on nine hits. He did not record a walk or a strikeout in the 6-0 loss.

Wisler (1-1) gave up runs in each of the first three innings on Thursday, including a two-run home run to Ian Desmond in the second inning. After throwing eight innings of one-run ball against the Mets on Friday, the 22-year-old now owns a 3.75 ERA in his young career.

"It's going to be a learning curve and I still have a long way to go," said Wisler, per MLB.com. "Obviously I'm 22 and I still have a lot to learn. I've just got to watch this and learn from it. I'll think about it a little bit tonight, move on and get better."

Braves SP Matt Wisler earns win in MLB debut vs. Mets on Friday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(6/19/15) Making his Major League debut, Braves right hander Matt Wisler was outstanding on Friday against the Mets, as he picked up his first career win. The 22-year-old limited the Mets to one run on six hits over eight brilliant innings. He struck out two and did not issue a walk.

"I honestly felt more calm than I probably should have out there," Wisler said, per MLB.com. "I kept telling myself, 'Don't get too comfortable, because it's going to burn you.'"

The only run the rookie gave up came on an RBI single by Michael Cuddyer in the sixth inning. The last Braves to pitch eight innings in his big-league debut was Hall-of-Famer John Smoltz in 1988, against the Mets, according to the Braves radio network.

Wisler more-than-likely earned himself at least one more start, and he'll take his next turn on Thursday on the road against the Nationals.

Braves confirm top-100 prospect Matt Wisler to make debut Friday

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/19/15) The Braves have confirmed starting pitcher prospect Matt Wisler will make his MLB debut Friday against the Mets. Wisler's promotion comes after the Braves optioned starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz to Triple-A Gwinnett earlier in the week, opening a spot in the rotation.

Wisler was one of the key pieces in the April trade that sent Craig Kimbrel and Melvin Upton Jr. to the Padres.

The 22-year-old right-hander has a five-pitch repertoire, which includes a low-to-mid 90s four-seam fastball, a sinking two-seam fastball, a low 90s plus-slider, a changeup and a curveball, according to MLB.com.

Wisler, who is considered a top-100 prospect by Baseball America (No. 34) and MLB.com (No. 69), is 3-4 with a 4.29 ERA in 12 starts at Triple-A. He is 28-19 with a 3.53 ERA in his career.
