|(3/25/15) Yankees starting pitcher prospect Ty Hensley, who was hospitalized in late December following an alleged attack, has been participating in all scheduled workouts this spring, minor-league pitching coordinator Gil Paterson told NJ.com.
Authorities have said former NFL hopeful Anthony Morales, 24, assaulted Hensley, 21, at a friend's home near Oklahoma City on Dec. 28. Morales allegedly kicked Hensley in the head numerous times, leaving him unconscious, and fled before police arrived. Morales was charged with aggravated assault and battery. A preliminarily hearing in the case isn't expected until May, according to Hensley's lawyer, Jacob Diesselhorst.
Hensley suffered a broken jaw. He also lost a tooth and had a gash on his chin.
"If you didn't know something had happened, you wouldn't know from watching him," Paterson said of Hensley, who started in a minor-league game Tuesday against the Blue Jays. "He's been working hard."
Hensley was a first-round draft pick in 2012. He signed a $1.2 million signing bonus. He is 1-2 with a 2.98 ERA in 16 career outings (14 starts).
Alleged assault victim Hensley hopes to be ready for spring training
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(1/13/15) Yankees prospect Ty Hensley, who was allegedly assaulted in late December, is optimistic he will be ready for spring training, agent Rob Martin told NJ.com on Tuesday. Henlsey's jaw is wired shut and he's still struggling with pain from his injuries, but he continues with his offseason throwing program.
"It's a tribute to his toughness and resolve that he's doing everything he can to shift all the focus toward his future on the diamond," Martin said.
Hensley is recovering from a Dec. 28 incident when he was repeatedly kicked in the head by Anthony Morales, 24, while Hensley was unconscious at a mutual friend's house in an Oklahoma City suburb, authorities say.
Morales has been charged with aggravated assault and battery, and he's pleaded not guilty. Morales' lawyer, Joe White, told NJ.com that Morales was acting in self defense against a drunken Hensley.
Hensley suffered a broken jaw and large gash on his chin. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 9 a.m. on Feb. 5 at the Oklahoma County Courthouse.

|(4/3/13) Yankees first-round pick Ty Hensley, a 6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher, will miss the next 2-3 months after surgery Wednesday to fix a right hip impingement, the New York Post reports.
Hensley was suffering from a pulled abdominal caused by the impingement, Yankees senior vice president of baseball operations Mark Newman told the Post. Hensley, 19, has pitched just five professional games, all at the rookie-level Gulf Coast League last season. He was expected to start the 2013 season at Low-A.
