(3/27/13) The Royals have re-signed outfielder Xavier Nady to a minor-league deal. Nady was actually released by the club Tuesday but worked out a new deal. The 34-year-old hit .184/.253/.316 in 166 plate appearances last season.

(3/26/13) The Royals made a series of roster moves following their game Monday night, releasing outfielder Xavier Nady and relief pitcher George Sherrill from their minor-league contracts. The team also optioned outfielder David Lough to Triple-A Omaha.

(3/17/13) Royals backup outfielder Xavier Nady is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his foot and has been out since March 13, reports the Kansas City Star.
Nady, who is batting .333 over 11 games this spring, is losing his footing -- no pun intended -- on a possible roster spot. It is unclear how much longer he'll be out.

(12/14/12) Veteran outfielder Xavier Nady signed a minor league contract with the Royals on Friday, also snagging an invitation to spring training. In 59 games between the Nationals and Giants last year, Nady hit .184 with four home runs. He has a career average of .270.

Free agent rankings: First basemen
Last season, Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder signed free-agent deals worth a combined $468 million. That's not going to happen with the position this year. In fact, it would be surprising if the accumulated free-agent class could match the 19 years on the contracts of Fielder and Pujols -- or even the 17 remaining years.

With the World Series over, the free-agency period begins. As of Monday, 137 players became free agents and can start negotiating and signing with any team beginning at 12:01 a.m. ET on Saturday.
