Kevin Plawecki expected to be promoted to Triple-A 'very soon'
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/23/14) A team source told the New York Daily News that a promotion for Mets catcher prospect Kevin Plawecki from Double-A Binghamton to Triple-A Las Vegas will happen "very soon." A move could coincide with the Mets' anticipated recall of catcher Travis d'Arnaud from Las Vegas this week.

Plawecki, a 2012 first-round pick, is batting .329 with a .376 on-base percentage, .491 slugging percentage and .867 OPS in 57 games for Binghamton. He has six home runs, 18 doubles, 43 RBI, 32 runs, 14 walks and 27 strikeouts as well.

Report: Mets continue to monitor shortstop market
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/12/14) Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada's shaky play this spring has renewed concerns for management he will not be able to handle the starting shortstop job. Therefore, the Mets are continuing to monitor the shortstop market, according to the New York Daily News.

A team source said Tuesday the Mets continue to scout Mariners infielder Nick Franklin, as they decide whether or not Franklin can play shortstop well enough to justify his offensive potential and giving up a starting pitcher prospect for him.

Also, a source for another team told the Daily News the Mets are also monitoring the Diamondbacks' shortstop competition, and "could jump in" to make a trade for Didi Gregorius or Chris Owings before spring training ends. Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said recently he would consider trading one of his young shortstops, ideally for a top catching prospect, which would likely be Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki.

There is also free-agent shortstop Stephen Drew, but there is no indication from Drew's agent, Scott Boras, that his client would be willing to sign a bargain-type contract.

Mets make several roster moves Monday
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/10/14) The Mets made several roster moves Monday, which included optioning Erik Goeddel, Steven Matz, Josh Edgin and Wilfredo Tovar to the minors. Logan Verrett, Adam Kolarek, Chasen Bradford, Dustin Lawley, Brandon Nimmo, Cory Vaughn, Danny Muno and Kevin Plawecki were also reassigned to minor-league camp.
Mets manager doesn't see Kevin Plawecki changing positions
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/23/14) Mets manager Terry Collins said he's eager to see catcher prospect Kevin Plawecki in action this spring, according to ESPN.

"I'd like to see him catch, because just watching him in BP, he has a clue," Collins said. "He squares it up pretty good. And it's loud. So I'm real impressed with what I've seen at the plate. I'd like to see him catch and throw a little bit. You know, this guy came from a major college program. Player of the Year in the Big Ten, that's a pretty big statement."

Plawecki was a standout offensive player in his first full pro season in 2013, batting .305 with a .390 on-base percentage, .448 slugging percentage, .838 OPS, eight home runs, 38 doubles and 80 RBI in 125 games between two levels of Class A.

Collins sees Plawecki long term as a catcher and not shifting to another defensive position.

"I think he's going to be a catcher, and I think he's going to be a good offensive catcher," Collins said. "If you can produce your own catchers, those are big."

Hitting 'a bonus' for Kevin Plawecki
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/17/13) After batting .314 in 65 games for low Class A Savannah, Mets catcher prospect Kevin Plawecki is off to a stellar start for high Class A St. Lucie, batting .365 in 21 games.

"I got off to a hot start, and I've been able to carry it on from there," Plawecki told MLB.com.

The 2012 first-round pick has one home run, six doubles and 18 RBI with St. Lucie. For the season, he is batting .326 with a .492 slugging percentage, .891 OPS, one triple, seven home runs, 30 doubles and 61 RBI in 86 games.

Plawecki has improved his status after entering the season ranked as the Mets' 17th-best prospect by MLB.com.

"I work hard on my catching," Plawecki said. "Being a good receiver and establishing a relationship with your pitchers are important. For a catcher, hitting is a bonus."
