Astros assign nine to minor-league camp

(3/9/14) The Astros announced Sunday they assigned pitchers Jake Buchanan, Paul Clemens, Bobby Doran, Jason Stoffel  and Nick Tropeano, infielders Jonathan Meyer  and Ronald Torreyes  and outfielders Leo Heras and Preston Tucker to minor-league camp.
Astros manager 'excited' to have Preston Tucker in camp

(2/26/14) Although Astros outfield prospect Preston Tucker isn't expected to make the opening day roster, manager Bo Porter noted he was happy to see the 23-year-old outfielder among the spring training invites.

"He can hit," Porter said, per the Houston Chronicle. "He was one of those guys that I kind of put an asterisk next to I was excited to have him here at camp."

Tucker is batting .303 with a .373 on-base percentage, .506 slugging percentage and .879 OPS through 177 minor-league games. He also has 33 home runs, 39 doubles and 141 RBI.

Carlos Correa, Mark Appel headline Astros' spring invitees

(1/14/14) The Astros invited 20 non-roster minor-leaguers to spring training Tuesday, including infielder Carlos Correa and pitcher Mark Appel, the team announced.

The team's other invitees include pitchers Jake Buchanan, Rhiner Cruz, Jorge De Leon, Bobby Doran, Mike Foltynewicz, Jason Stoffel and Nick Tropeano; catchers Rene Garcia, Tyler Heineman and Carlos Perez; infielders Japhet Amador, Jonathan Meyer and Ronald Torreyes; and outfielders Delino DeShields, Leo Heras, J.D. Martinez, George Springer and Preston Tucker.

Correa, 19, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 amateur draft. He hit .320/.405/.467 with nine home runs, 86 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 450 at-bats with Class A Quad Cities last season.

Appel, 22, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 amateur draft. He went 3-1 with a 3.79 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 33:9 K:BB ratio in 38 innings over 10 starts between low Class A Tri-City and Class A Quad Cities.

Preston Tucker promoted to Double-A

(6/26/13) Astros outfield prospect Preston Tucker was promoted from high Class A Lancaster to Double-A Corpus Christi Wednesday, according to MLB.com. The 2012 seventh-round pick hit .326 with a .544 slugging percentage, .928 OPS, 15 home runs, 18 doubles and 74 RBI in 75 games for Lancaster.
Preston Tucker catches attention of Astros' GM

(6/24/13) Astros outfield prospect Preston Tucker continues to enjoy a breakout year at Class A Lancaster.

The 2012 seventh-round pick has a .324/.383/.534/.917 slash line through 73 games. Tucker has one triple, 14 home runs, 17 doubles, 59 runs and 70 RBI. 

Astros general manager Jeff Lunhow told the Houston Chronicle the former University of Florida standout has the power-patience formula the club prizes.

"I could see him up here in the next couple of years," Lunhow said.
