Astros OF Preston Tucker blasts off to force overtime in Detroit
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(5/21/15) Astros rookie Preston Tucker not only tied the game Thursday in Detroit with a solo home run in the ninth, but he also did something no Houston player had done in three years.
The blast marked the first time an Astro hit his first career home run as a pinch-hitter since Brandon Barnes did it in August 2012.
Tucker is off to a flying start in the majors with a slash line .310/.412/.552.
Preston Tucker goes 3 for 4 in Astros' win
|by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com|
|(5/15/15) Astros designated hitter Preston Tucker went 3 for 4 in Thursday's win over Toronto.
Tucker hit his first two doubles of the year, scored once and drove in his third run of the season. His average now stands at .286.
"He’s proven to put up some good at-bats against lefties and righties," manager A.J. Hinch said, per the Houston Chronicle. "We’re going to have to try to get creative to divvy up some playing time. Some guys are due some days off and we’ll most likely go to Tuck. He’s earning his keep every day."
Astros DH Evan Gattis set to sit against Blue Jays
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(5/14/15) Astros designated hitter Evan Gattis has followed a brutal stretch to start the season with a hot streak and another brutal stretch. The latest dry spell has him sitting Thursday against Toronto
Preston Tucker is set to DH instead.
Gattis has just one hit in his last 19 at-bats as his batting average has dropped from .206 to .181.
Astros' Preston Tucker eager to impress manager
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(5/13/15) Astros prospect Preston Tucker has done enough to make an impression on manager A.J. Hinch in his short time with the club, according to MLB.com.
Tucker was called up last week when George Springer was placed on the 7-day DL with a concussion and when he came back to the team, Tucker stayed on the roster.
"I'm excited that they think I can contribute to the team," Tucker said. "I'm not really sure what kind of roles they want me to play, but I'm up for anything. But once I get comfortable, I'll be able to help us win some ballgames."
Hinch wants to find ways to keep Tucker in the lineup.
"Tuck was performing about as good as anybody in the PCL," Hinch said. "Not only on Fresno's team, but in the entire league, so he was so dominant. ... It was a strong recommendation from our scouts and player development people about his performance."
Tucker is hitting .100 in 10 at-bats this season.
"He got off to a rough start the beginning of a season," Hinch said. "He did help us win a game with the opposite-field home run. His right-handed swing was not complementing Rasmus as much as we had hoped at the time. So he's got a chance to go down for at least 10 days and get some regular at-bats in Triple-A and get his offense going."
Astros DH Evan Gattis returns to starting lineup on Tuesday
|by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer|
|(5/12/15) Astros designated hitter Evan Gattis is back in the starting lineup for Tuesday's matchup with the Giants. Gattis was rested on Sunday, though he did pinch-hit.
Gattis got off to a hot start in May, but has cooled off considerably, as he is now batting .222 with five strikeouts (to just one walk) in 10 games this month. But he's back in the lineup at his usual cleanup spot in the order on Tuesday.
Preston Tucker will get the day off on Tuesday.
