Carlos Ruiz, Ben Revere out of Phillies' lineup on Saturday

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(4/18/15) Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz and left fielderBen Revere were not in the team's starting lineup for Saturday's game at Washington.

Cameron Rupp got the start at catcher, batting eighth. Darin Ruf got the call in left, batting sixth.

Phillies' Chase Utley, Carlos Ruiz out of lineup Sunday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/12/15) Phillies second baseman Chase Utley and catcher Carlos Ruiz are not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

With Utley on the bench, third baseman Cody Asche, who didn't start Saturday's game, slides into the third spot in the lineup. Second baseman Cesar Hernandez and catcher Cameron Rupp will start Sunday and hit in the bottom third of the order.

The Phillies are heavy home underdogs (+180) against the Nationals Sunday.

Phillies C Cameron Rupp doubles twice Sunday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/22/15) Phillies catcher Cameron Rupp went 2 for 3 with two doubles in Sunday's 7-6 loss to the Red Sox, and manager Ryne Sandberg praised his impressive spring performance after the game, MLB.com reports.

"For me, he's a guy that when he makes contact, some good things can happen because he's so strong," Sandberg said about Rupp. "He's really had good at-bats putting the ball in play, and that's resulted in some extra-base hits. It's something he's working on and he's shortening up his stroke a little bit, with kind of the team philosophy of the camp, and he's taken to that."

Rupp is 7 for 17 with four doubles and two walks this spring.

Phillies backup catcher spot up for grabs

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(2/28/15) The Phillies know Carlos Ruiz will be their opening day starter behind the plate. However, manager Ryne Sandberg is unclear as to who will backup Ruiz when the season begins, reports Philly.com.

"That's one of the areas in camp I think there's some competition," Sandberg said. "[I] need some game reps and game situations to really see them. I like the way that they're all going about it as a group. To get them into games and see how that goes, that will play big in that decision."

Cameron Rupp, Koyie Hill and John Hester are all vying for the position. Rupp is considered the favorite, according to the report, with the most pro experience, hitting .183 with six RBI and four runs scored in 60 plate appearances last season.

"Nothing's handed to anybody," Rupp said, "so I come out every day looking to get better, work on things that I need to improve on, and put my best foot forward."

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro might add shortstop, catcher during camp

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/10/15) Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said he doesn't plan to add a veteran shortstop or catcher before spring training opens, per ESPN. However, he could add to the roster at both positions during camp.

According to the depth chart on the team's official website, Carlos Ruiz remains the starting catcher and Cameron Rupp, who has played just 22 games at the major-league level, is his backup. Freddy Galvis is listed as the only shortstop in the wake of Jimmy Rollins' trade to Los Angeles.
