Towers exercises opt-out option
(5/21/10) RP Josh Towers was released by the Dodgers on Friday. The veteran pitcher had an opt-out clause in his contract, which could be exercised if he wasn't called up to the major leagues. Towers was pitching at Triple-A Albuquerque and was 2-5 with an 8.05 ERA.
Dodgers may pick Ely over Towers now
(4/27/10) The Dodgers need a spot starter Wednesday and 23-year-old right-hander John Ely, obtained with Jon Link in the Juan Pierre deal, is the leading candidate, according to MLB.com. Josh Towers had been rumored to be the likely fill-in, but that was before the Dodgers moved up Charlie Haeger to start on three-day's rest and Monday's game was rained out, forcing a Tuesday doubleheader.
No word yet on Towers recall
(4/26/10) MLB.com reports the Dodgers are considering three candidates to take Vicente Padilla's spot in the rotation on Wednesday against the Mets. The candidates are Double-A right-hander Jesus Castillo, Triple-A right-hander Josh Towers and Triple-A left-hander Scott Elbert.
Towers to replace Padilla?
(4/26/10) The Los Angeles Times reports that Dodgers RP Josh Towers could be called up to replace Vicente Padilla in the rotation this week.
Dodgers weighing rotation options
(4/26/10) The Dodgers-Mets game on Monday was cancelled due to rain. The game will be made up as a doubleheader on Tuesday, with the first game starting at 4 p.m. Dodgers SP Hiroki Kuroda and Mets SP Oliver Perez, who were slated to pitch Monday, will pitch on Tuesday. However, the Mets will send Johan Santana to the mound in Game 1 and Perez will pitch the nightcap. The Dodgers will decide between Charlie Haeger, who could pitch on three day's rest, or Josh Towers, who is expected to be recalled from the minors to take the roster spot of Vicente Padilla, to pitch in the game Kurdoa does not.
