Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) won't throw for at least another week

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7/28/15) Mets rookie left-hander Steven Matz met with doctors on Tuesday to examine his strained lat muscle. Matz was told to refrain from throwing for at least another week, according to ESPN.com.

Matz has been out for nearly three weeks with the injury, and despite the less-than-encouraging news from the doctors, general manager Sandy Alderson did say Matz's lat muscle has improved. Still, he'll go at least another week without picking up a baseball.

Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) placed on 15-day DL Friday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7/10/15) The Mets have officially placed rookie left-hander Steven Matz on the 15-day disabled list with a partial tear of his lat muscle. It had already been reported that Matz would miss his start on Sunday, and he will be reevauluated in three weeks.

Infielder Danny Muno was recalled from Triple-A to take Matz's place on the 25-man roster, ESPN.com reports.

Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) will be re-evaluated in three weeks

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/10/15) Mets general manager Sandy Alderson confirmed starting pitcher Steven Matz will not throw for three weeks to allow the tear in his lat to heal. He will be re-evaluated at the end of the three-week period.

"Based on what the doctors told us there is a very high probability he will be healed in three weeks but that is not guaranteed," Alderson said.

Matz said he felt good enough to pitch in Sunday's game against the Dodgers and the injury did not limit him as he threw six scoreless innings. He added the injury is not painful, but it feels like a pull on the muscle under his armpit.

"It's frustrating, but this is just a minor thing and I will be back," Matz said.

Mets SP Steven Matz to miss time with lat injury

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7/9/15) Mets rookie left-hander Steven Matz has suffered a significant lat muscle injury that will sideline him for several weeks, the New York Daily News first reported.

Matz, the No. 33 prospect in the game according to Baseball America, is 2-0 in his first two career starts, posting a sterling 1.32 ERA.

The Mets have since confirmed that Matz was diagnosed with a partial tear of his lat muscle and he will be placed on the disabled list, CBSSports Baseball Inside Jon Heyman reports. The lefty will be shut down for three weeks and then be reevaluated, according to Heyman.

Either Jonathon Niese or Bartolo Colon will start on Sunday in place of Matz.

Mets SP Steven Matz sharp in second start

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(7/5/15) Mets rookie starter Steven Matz showed no signs of a sophomore slump in his second start Sunday, dominating the Dodgers over six innings to improve to 2-0 as New York rolled to a win.

Matz was nearly unhittable during his time on the hill, striking out eight batters while walking two. He gave up just two hits, both singles, during his 101-pitch outings.

Matz is now 2-0 on the season, and has lowered his ERA on the campaign to 1.32. He continued to be impressive with the bat as well, driving in a run with an RBI groundout.
