Kyle Hendricks posts fifth win, sixth straight quality start
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(8/18/14) Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks held the Mets to one run in seven innings during a 4-1 win Monday. He allowed three hits and two walks, while striking out three on his way to a fourth straight victory.

Hendricks (5-1) allowed a pair of singles in the first three innings before Lucas Duda launched a solo home run with one out in the fourth inning. It was just the third home run in seven starts the rookie has allowed.

Despite falling behind, Hendricks bounced back and was still in line for the decision when Anthony Rizzo gave Chicago a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning. He's won five of seven starts since his promotion from the minors. Hendricks is also the first Cubs' rookie with six consecutive quality starts since Kerry Wood, who had two streaks of seven quality starts in 1998, according to The Chicago Tribune.

Hendricks is expected to make his next start Saturday against the Orioles. He is 2-1 with a 0.44 ERA in his first three starts at Wrigley Field.

Cubs push back pitchers a day
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(8/14/14) The Cubs will call up Dan Straily for Saturday's start, pushing back their pitchers a day.

That means Jake Arrieta will move to Sunday, and Kyle Hendricks will throw Monday. It's just a spot start for Straily, so the team's rotation should return to normal following Saturday's game.

Time to give Kyle Hendricks credit
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(8/13/14) As long as we can agree that he won't maintain a 1.73 ERA and that, because he's not a strikeout pitcher, there are limits to his upside, I'm comfortable endorsing Kyle Hendricks in Fantasy.

I've been slow to come around, but six starts are enough to convince me he excels in at least two of three measurements that determine a pitcher's FIP, an estimate of what ERA should be with luck removed from the equation: He doesn't walk anybody, and he keeps the ball in the park with his ground-ball tendencies.

He also pitches much deeper into games than you'd expect for a rookie, going at least seven innings in four of his six starts. That's a big deal in Head-to-Head points leagues especially and helps explain his 4-1 record despite pitching for a bad team.

So what is his upside exactly? Well, Doug Fister has become the standard for pitch-to-contact pitchers, but let's not assume a best-case scenario after only six starts. I'm thinking something along the lines of Mike Leake, which isn't the cleanest comparison since Leake allows a fair number of home runs, but I think their other ratios will be similar in the long run.

So if Leake is worth owning in your league, chances are so is Hendricks.

Kyle Hendricks tosses scoreless outing Tuesday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(8/12/14) Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks turned in a strong performance Tuesday against the Brewers.

Hendricks tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings. He struck out five and walked one during the outing. Hendricks allowed six hits. Hendricks did a good job keeping the ball on the ground, posting nine ground ball outs. He ran into some trouble in his final inning, loading the bases before he was pulled from the game. Pedro Strop was able to induce an inning-ending double-play, keeping Hendricks from giving up any runs.

With the win, Hendricks improved to 4-1 on the year. He'll take on the Mets in his next start.

Kyle Hendricks goes eight innings strong in win over Rockies
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/7/14) Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks went eight innings strong for the win Thursday afternoon against the Rockies at Coors Field. The right-hander yielded two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four in a 6-2

Over his last four starts covering 28 1/3 innings, Hendricks has allowed only four earned runs. He owns a 2.10 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP over 34 1/3 innings of work. His next start will come Tuesday at home against Milwaukee.
