|Kyle Hendricks strikes out four in three scoreless innings Friday |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(3/14/14) Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks surrendered just one hit and one walk in three scoreless innings while striking out four in his team's 5-4 win over the Dodgers Friday.
Hendricks entered play Friday having given up three earned runs and walking five batters in five innings, so Friday's outing was a big step forward for the right-hander. He should open the season with Triple-A Iowa.

(3/4/14) Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks is unlikely to crack the rotation out of spring training, but he still gets to pitch with the big league club for now.
He made his first spring start Tuesday against the Athletics, as he tossed two innings in a 6-4 win. He gave up one run on one hit, while walking three batters and striking out two.
Hendricks is expected to begin the season at Triple-A Iowa if he does not earn a rotation spot right away. He posted a 2.48 ERA in 40 innings there last season.

(2/15/14) A glut of starting pitchers will likely prevent 24-year-old right-hander Kyle Hendricks from landing a spot in the Cubs rotation out of spring training, the Chicago Tribune has speculated.
Hendricks is well behind several veterans on the depth chart, including Jake Arrieta, Jason Hammel and James McDonald. But he did show his promise in 2013 at Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa with a 13-4 record and 2.00 ERA.
He will probably open the year at Iowa, for which he pitched just 40 innings last year.
|Kyle Hendricks could crack Cubs' rotation |
|by Al Melchior | Data Analyst|
(11/27/13) The Chicago Tribune reports that Cubs pitching coach Chris Bosio will lobby for 23-year-old prospect Kyle Hendricks to get a shot at a rotation spot out of spring training next season. While Hendricks is expected to begin the year at Triple-A Iowa, Bosio suggested the young control artist could be ready for the majors, saying, "What's to say he couldn't be a fourth or fifth starter? That's what spring training is going to be for."
Hendricks went 13-4 with a 2.00 ERA and 1.06 WHIP for Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa in 2013.
