Drew VerHagen placed on Triple-A disabled list
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7/22/14) Tigers pitcher Drew VerHagen was placed on the Triple-A disabled list Tuesday with a lower back strain, MLB.com reports.

VerHagen is scheduled to undergo an MRI and a bone scan on Wednesday to determine the severity of his injury. "He's had it off and on during his career," head trainer Kevin Rand said. "But his left side and lower back pain was bothering him to the point where he was going to miss a start."

VerHagen made his major-league debut Saturday in a spot start for the Tigers.

Drew VerHagen runs out of steam, loses debut
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(7/19/14) Tigers pitcher Drew VerHagen came out mowing batters down in his major-league debut Saturday, but could not keep it up in a 6-2 loss to the Indians.

VerHagen struck out the first two batters he faced, and had four strikeouts by the end of his second inning. Unfortunately, the Indians caught up with him from that point on, as he would finish his five innings of work with four strikeouts and three walks. He allowed three runs on five hits as well, en route to a loss.

VerHagen was called up as the 26th man for the Tigers' doubleheader Saturday, so he will head back to Triple-A Toledo.

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/17/14) The Tigers will promote pitcher Drew VerHagen from Triple-A Toledo to start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Indians, according to the Detroit Free Press. It was initially speculated Robbie Ray would be recalled to start the opener of the doubleheader.

The right-handed VerHagen is 6-7 with a 3.67 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 19 starts for Toledo. He has 63 strikeouts and 25 walks in 110 1/3 innings.
