Braves' Shae Simmons ready for new season back from shoulder injury
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(1/23/15) Braves pitcher Shae Simmons was only able to play in 20 games in 2014 after dealing with a right shoulder strain.
"I haven't had any issues, so I'm kind of excited about that," Simmons said Friday.
Simmons has not experienced any discomfort since beginning his offseason throwing program and will begin throwing off the mound next week.
"I gave my shoulder the rest that it needed and now I'm good," Simmons said. "Now, it's just about getting loose and getting my arm strength back."
Simmons posted a 2.91 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 21 2/3 innings in 2014, including one save.
Shae Simmons unlikely to pitch again this season
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(9/5/14) Braves pitcher Shae Simmons has not thrown a ball since Aug. 20 due to a strained right shoulder, and at this point it does not appear as if he will be able to pitch in the majors again this season, reports MLB.com Friday.
"He hasn't even gotten back on the mound yet," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "There is no reason to push him."
The Braves have little more than three weeks remaining in the regular season, and the team is moving forward as if Simmons will not pitch again until next season, Gonzalez and general manager Frank Wren acknowledged.
Simmons had a 2.91 ERA in 21 2/3 innings for the Braves this season before suffering the injury in July.

Shae Simmons will have at least one more rehab outing
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(8/19/14) Braves reliever Shae Simmons will make another rehab appearance at Triple-A Gwinnett Wednesday, to test the progress of his injured shoulder. If he gets through that outing without issue, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports the team will evaluate his progress to determine if he is ready to return from the disabled list.
Simmons has been out since late July, but had a 2.91 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 21 2/3 innings before the injury.
