Athletics send down Chris Bassitt
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(3/29/15) The Athletics have optioned pitcher Chris Bassitt to Triple-A Nashville.
Bassitt was part of the deal that shipped Jeff Samardzija to Chicago. He surrendered 13 earned runs in 13 1/3 innings this spring.
"It was going to be somebody, and as far as depth goes, we always want one or two guys ready to go, and that's the message we gave Chris," said manager Bob Melvin. "We did go over some things we thought he needed to work on. He was a little disappointed in his performance, but we certainly know what he has to offer. My guess is he will be a factor at some point for us this year."
Athletics pitcher Chris Bassitt working to throw better against lefties
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(3/23/15) Athletics pitcher Chris Bassitt gave up four runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched Mondaym leaving the young right-hander with more stuff to work on. The biggest issue is how well Bassitt can throw against left-handed hitters, reports Bay Area News Group.
"I have to be able to throw inside to left-handed hitters," he said. "I've always been able to get away with it in the minor leagues. But up here, they hit that. I've been working at that my whole life, honestly. At this level you can’t beat anyone if you can't."
Bassitt realizes his pitches work inside, then end up over the middle of the plate against lefties.
"My ball runs a lot," he said. "I'm trying to figure out where I have to throw it to get batters to think it's actually in. The catchers are setting up inside and my ball runs right down middle. Obviously, that’s not really effective at all."
Athletics' Chris Bassitt delivers strong performance in spring debut
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(3/7/15) Athletics pitcher Chris Bassitt worked two scoreless innings, allowing just one baserunner in his first appearance this spring. Bassitt was pushing himself more than he usually does Saturday, trying to work a bit quicker, reports MLB.com.
"I haven't had that in a long time," Bassitt said. "It was nerve-wracking, exciting, whatever you want to call it, because you want to put your best foot forward. No one really knows you yet, and this is when it starts counting in games."
Bassitt is just focusing on being able to throw strikes and trying to block everything else out.
"I'm really making a conscious effort this year, and I've been preached about it a long time. Just don't beat yourself. No walks," Bassitt said. "I don't really care about the score. If I don't walk anyone, I really feel like I like the odds."
