Diamondbacks prospect Peter O'Brien seeing mixed results in 2015
|by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer|
|(7/16/15) Having transitioned to being a full-time outfielder, Diamondbacks prospect Peter O'Brien has had a decent season so far at Triple-A Reno. The 25-year-old O'Brien has hit 15 home runs in 84 games this year, though he has struck out nearly 24 percent of the time.
O'Brien has struggled particularly of late, batting .242 with three doubles over his last 10 games.

|(5/31/15) Diamondbacks minor leaguer Peter O'Brien was still being considered the catcher of the future by the organization earlier this week, according to manager Chip Hale.
On Sunday, Triple-A Reno announced that O'Brien has decided to play the outfield full-time.
D-Backs' Hale on Peter O'Brien: 'Another guy pushing the envelope'

|(5/27/15) Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale indicated Wednesday that prospect Peter O'Brien is getting closer to joining the major-league roster, per MLB Network Radio.
"He's catching and doing a nice job," Hale said. "He looks good back there. His at-bats have been great and he is another guy pushing the envelope."
O'Brien has a .346/.383/.660/1.043 slash line in 41 games with Triple-A Reno this season. He also has two triples, 11 home runs, 13 doubles and 45 RBI.
O'Brien has moved all around the diamond this season. He has played 13 games in left field, 11 games in right field, nine games at catcher, four at DH and three at first base.
Diamondbacks' Peter O'Brien flourishing in the outfield at Triple-A

|(5/8/15) Diamondbacks prospect Peter O'Brien seems to be adjusting to life in the outfield well. O'Brien was originally drafted by the Yankees in 2012, but was traded to Arizona at last year's trade deadline.
Though he came into professional baseball as a catcher, the Yankees started moving him around to different positions, including third base and right field. Late in spring training the Diamondbacks decided to shift him primarily to the outfield so he could focus more on his hitting.
"Catching is a lot of fun, but I really enjoy the outfield and I definitely think that my bat is my biggest strength," O'Brien said, per the Arizona Republic. "I think that plays a little bit better in the outfield."
Now with Triple-A Reno, O'Brien is hitting better than ever. Through his first 27 games, the 24-year-old owns a .369/.393/.709 hitting line with eight home runs and 28 RBI.
"It kind of cleared my mind a little bit and let me be in the lineup every single day and focus more on the bat," he said. "It's been great so far. When we made the move in spring training, it's kind of exactly what I had in mind."
Diamondbacks' Peter O'Brien seeing time in outfield

|(3/26/15) Diamondbacks catcher Peter O'Brien spent his second consecutive day in the outfield during a minor-league game Thursday, and he hasn't been behind the plate since developing throwing problems earlier in March, the Arizona Republic reports.
"I think he's going to play some outfield (once the minor league season starts) and catching isn't out of the question, but we're still talking internally to figure out what's best for him," farm director Mike Bell said.
While the team has been reluctant to publicly acknowledge O'Brien's catching issues, he's unlikely to be the long-term answer behind the plate, as general manager Dave Stewart reportedly indicated in January. The Diamondbacks figure to roll with Tuffy Gosewisch as the team's primary catcher unless an addition is made.
