Rockies starter Christian Bergman goes four scoreless for no decision

by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(4/15/15) Rockies starter Christian Bergman did not give up a run in four innings of work, yielding four hits and striking out four against the Giants on Tuesday.

Bergman did not go the necessary five innings to earn the win. Reliever Scott Oberg (1-0) succeeded Bergman with one scoreless inning to record the victory.

Rockies pitcher Jorge De La Rosa was supposed to get the nod on Tuesday but a groin injury prevented it.

Bergman's next start for the Rockies has not been announced as of Tuesday night.

Rockies' Jorge De La Rosa (groin) won't return Tuesday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/11/15) Rockies pitcher Jorge De La Rosa (groin) won't make his season debut Tuesday, the Denver Post reports.

"We could bring him back, but he's not quite built up enough yet," manager Walt Weiss said. "We want to give him more time to build up some confidence in the groin."

The Rockies need a fifth starter for the first time Tuesday, and the team initially hoped De La Rosa would be ready to return from his groin injury at that point. Instead, he'll start for Triple-A Albuquerque Tuesday.

"They want to make sure I'm good," De La Rosa said. "I didn't pitch very much in spring."

Christian Bergman will get the call for Tuesday's start against the Giants in San Francisco. De La Rosa's return could come April 20 against the Padres in Colorado.

Christian Bergman earns win in relief for Rockies

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(4/10/15) Reliever Christian Bergman earned his first win of the season, coming out of the bullpen for the Rockies.

Bergman entered a 1-1 tie with the Cubs, with runners on first and second and no one out in the fifth. He induced a double play and a ground out in the only two batters he faced. The Rockies scored two runs in their half of the fifth to earn Bergman the win in a game that ended 5-1.

"The bullpen has given us everything we could ask," manager Walt Weiss said, per the Denver Post.

Rockies P Christian Bergman happy to be named long reliever

by Dave Peters | CBSSports.com
(4/4/15) Rockies pitcher Christian Bergman is pleased with being named a long reliever for the team, according to MLB.com. This is his first time making an Opening Day roster.

"They called me into the office yesterday and said, 'You're probably wondering where you're going. … You're going to Milwaukee, but there's a twist -- you're going to start out in the bullpen as a long reliever, and if the starter gets in trouble, you're going to be the guy we go to,'" Bergman said Saturday.

There is a possibility that Bergman could be optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque when pitcher Jorge De La Rosa returns from a groin injury. But he may be able to avoid that if he has strong outings until De La Rosa returns.

This spring, the reliever had an ERA of 5.40, giving up 10 runs. Bergman, 26, started 10 games for the Rockies last season, posting an ERA of 5.93.

Report: Rockies will evaluate Bergman, Butler for fifth rotation spot

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/3/15) With Jon Gray likely out of the race for the fifth spot in the Rockies' rotation, the club will evaluate Christian Bergman and Eddie Butler over the weekend before making a final decision, according to the Denver Post.

Bergman is slated to pitch in a Cactus League game Friday against the Mariners. He has 5.52 ERA over 14 2/3 innings of work this spring. Butler will face Seattle on Saturday. He owns a 3.07 ERA over 14 2/3 innings this spring.
